Just got in today from the moose hunt. Nothing this year, we drew all calf tags and didn't see a thing. Lots of tracks and a bull that seemed to follow us everywhere. It was a good week though, took my youngest daughter for a night and she had fun, she heard a calf calling for it mother, we couldn't see it though. Lots of wildlife through the week, Otters, Fishers, Beavers, Fox (in the camp), Wolves (in the camp), Deer and Grouse (good soup). Abbie suprised me as well with a grouse, you can read about it in the Upland Forum.

Here's a pic of Ab's opening night by the fire. I call it Devil Dog

She was spooked at night by the fire, we found out last night why, there was a fox that would sit just outside the fire light.

Glad you had a good time Nimkii, I have never had to hunt calves only thankfully but I know it musta been tough. In 20 years of moose hunting I have only ever see 4 or 5 calves. How big was the bull that you guy's seen?

The grouse hunting was unreal this year even where I was ( Thunder Bay ). I would say that on average I would see 20-30 per day, Since I was archery hunting I had no gun but managed to take 15 or so over the course of 2 weeks with the bow. I could only imagine how many you could get with a good dog and a gun.

He was a good sized bull, he made our hand stand on end when he grunted. And he made a hell of a noise when he crashed through the brush. Oh well, there's always next year...just need a tag.

The group I hunt with haven't drew a bull or cow tag in several years. We met two first time hunters from Scarborough that drew a bull and a cow...go figure huh...We hunt in WMU 60, not many tags issued as it is and there are no group tags. Hopefully this new system the MNR is coming up with will be better. In our area it seems that its the same people getting all the tags.
