View Full Version : !st Hunt On Pelle
Just got home from Pelle Island . The wind was so bad Fri afternoon and Sat they stopped the ferry's. We got off the island Sun at noon . The hunt was great it self got our limits with 9 hunters . The food was great got a little rain that we needed . Dog worked good it was Tules first pheasant hunt . I was happy.Met my friend Jerry Vandrewal over there he has a new English Setter havn't seen him since last year . I talked to MNR and no one got shoot so that was good the tree huggers won't have anything to talk about. Just had a great trip.I left my memory card for my camera at home.I won't have any pic. will have to what for them from the other guys. Terry

my brother got shot
three hunters flushed a bird that flew right at him and my buddie
they called out to these guys only like 10 sec. before to let them know they were there,he was in the open in plain sight
all three raised and fired and my brother was struck in the thigh from about 60 yds
fortunatly that is where his brush pants gave him the most protection
one hell of a welt though
the guys took off without a sorry or are you all right
we told the mnr about it at the ferry 8:45,we got on at 9:45
you must have talked to the mnr before that or they slushed it of because there was no serious injury
hits him in the eye,it's a different story
what H@#$ is wrong with people!
I've never been on a pheasant hunt but have always wanted to and now I have dog I've been wanting to even more.
What's the point if you have to worry about your dog or yourself being shot by some moron!

Sounds like it was a great hunt Terry. I will have to try Pelle some day.
Glad to hear your brother is Ok Al, just one of the reason's I quit hunting with a gun years ago ( except for waterfowl ). When there is an open gun season on ( big game ) me and my dog stay out of the bush ( or marsh).

Congratulations a good trip, it's a great place to get your dog into alot of birds.
I've been to Pelee a couple of times, not for a few years now. It takes a few years, to remember the high points without the negatives:sad1: There seems to be the whole gamut of hunters there, from experienced hunters and serious dog guys, to the guys that it's their only hunt of the year and they're there to get their birds no, matter what, even if the birds are given to them, so they can get back to drinking?
It can be a great experience and all those birds are something to see, but sometimes you've got to pass on the best looking spots and hunt marginal cover for your and your dogs' safety. The second day is more like a real hunt, the first hour of the first day is a spectacle unlike anything I've seen anywhere else :dog: :argue: :dog:
I would think that the MNR was talking about nothing red coming out or shot in a eye not just sprayed.I hope I never see anyone get shot. Terry

I enjoyed my 1st pheasant hunt at peele last year. There were two dogs, 2 gunners and full bag limit. This year I changed my plans because I needed to find a place with no or minimal guns so I did a wild grouse hunt. I must say I like peele, and I would return with my next pup but the wild birds are for me.
