I was looking around and noticed a lot of pedigrees showed the male having some very high titles while the females had hardly any. I did see some that were visa versa or both parents had the same but noticed a lot more males with the higher titles. Anyone have any idea why this is? Are the males a lot harder, more drivin, and there for easier to title than a female or whats the deal? I am a pointer person and when I look at their pedigrees I do see some of the same thing but I see a lot of both parents having the same titles.

Females have training and testing interrupted by heat cycles and pregnancies - many people running higher field levels don't want the bother. I can say from experience that it is very frustrating when you're trying to finish a title and the bitch keeps coming in season 3 days before the test!!

Females tend to run hot and cold with the hormones and everthing,But when a female is running hot look out they are hard to beat .As far as titled bitches go I think people just want to breed the bitches to Titled males and make some money.I try to wait until they have titled before I breed my females.
Hopefully my HRCH bitch will get a field title this comming year and then I might breed her..

I think it just as important to have both the male and females at the same level of desire, drive and style. That is if you want to put better athletes out there. Titles are important to a pedigree, Yes, but if there is a gun dog that retrieves 300+ birds a season, What's wrong with That? I have seen dogs with FC & AFC that i also would NOT breed too. Look at the natural ability in a dog. Look of both sire and dam, their litter mates, and the off spring if it is a repeat breeding.

I Agree with what LeeW said about people making money......
I have seen people purchase a female try and run it in trials, dose not pan out or as they say washed out
but breed it to a male with high titles..... what do you think your going to get.... flip a coin...

Any female that is intact and going to be used for breeding will loose around 3-4 out of 12 month due to heat cycles which has a big impact. And if you are looking back in generations you will see that for many years prior to the adjustable intensitiy E-collar males were generally the only gender that could take the heat and attain the high level titles were males. Also males are sometimes given preference by some competitive pros as they do not come into heat, and can make alot more loot off breeding verces a female.

:sorry: I would expect that you are looking in the wrong places! Check the results of the latest nationals in both US and Canada, amateur and open. In started dogs, the female numbers are now equal in number if not greater than the males and I would expect have won in the majority of cases. Defending champions on boths sides of the border are females and guess what - they have titles.

As was stated in a previous thread - you get what you pay for and if you want titles, you will have to pay. And if the bitch has titles, you will have to pay more.

I will repeat, "you are looking in the wrong places!"

Just my opinion and that and 10 cents won't get you a cup of coffee anymore.

I think you are right, the breedings are there you just have to find them and be ready to pay when you do find them.

Every NFTCH breeding I have seen in the last 6 yrs has been in excess of $5000 USD... and....Like you could get one anyway. You have definately be in the owners "network" to be even considered.

Even quality titled Bitch breedings are snatched up....and almost any Price.

A perfect example of the above fact that titled females will raise the price of a litter: compare the above mentionned NFTCH x FC AFC pedigree, going for $4000 a pop, with our advertised litter: FC AFC Ruger x CFC Hammer daughter, going for $900 a pop.

The sires are littermates, both stellar, both proven producers of stellar pups. The NFTCH dam, "Rylee" is a full sister to our bitch's sire, FTCH Hammer. The pedigrees are extremely similar but our bitch just turned 2 & is untitled. You pay for a proven performance dam, but if you do your homework and check out pedigrees, you can find an excellent breeding with the same genes for a reasonable price.
