Well my fellow Manitoban, I was under the impression that you had to have a pup that was 8+ weeks old to fly on most carriers for starters and they had to have an international health check/certification done, not just a health check by a local vet. Also many carriers will not ship a dog anymore, nor will they after a certian time of the year due to unheated cargo storage (likely out of luck already), so you need to make a phone call tothe perspective breeder and see if they have any experience shipping puppies and what carrier is close, who will ship to Canada, costs, and other stipulations?

Like Misty says get the breeder to check with the airline he will be using. I had two pups flown in from Dallas North Carolina, they were 7 1/2 weeks old, but we lied about the age. The breeder just needed a vet clearence on the pups, that he got no problem. I drove over the border to Syracuse NY to pick them up. then drove back across the border. The border asked to see the bill of sale and vet clearance, charged me the good old GST & PST, then sent me on my way. It was very easy!

Why didn't you wait another half a week so you could tell the truth? I see red when ever I hear about any kind of lying concerning puppies. I had a breeder add a year onto a 2 year old I bought ( was actually 3) screwed up all her derby wins.

Health Certificate from breeders vet, technically suppose to be 8 weeks to fly.

Case, at the time it was 102 degrees in North Carolina, the flight we had was the last one I could get or I would have had to wait another week or two until it cooled down. Like a kid, I WANTED my pup NOW""""lol,,lol,, With out going into detail, my small white lie didnt hurt no one, just let the pup fly thats all! Their papers are the right dates, as these are what I showed the border, not the airline!

Bryan,

Get your breeder to check out Northwest Airlines. If they fly into your city, they have climate controlled baggage and can fly your pup in a lot more extreme weather. Also try for direct flights. Lay-overs can be really rough on a pup depending on the length of the lay-over. Like Huntmaster, I found it easier to pick my pup up at Syracuse and drive across. Much less hassle with customs. Gave me more options for airline carrier and time of arrival. Pup should be 8 weeks, airline rules, and have vet health certificate saying pup is in good health and has had all age appropriate shots. Will also need bill of sale for GST. Good luck with your pup.

When I brought my pup back from BC Air Canada basically wanted an airline approved crate with proper dimensions and 8 wks. old. I also asked about the cargo holds and was told the pilots are given a cargo inventory and if any living critters are on board the hold is pressurized and climate controlled. My breeder insisted on non stop, point A-B flights with no stop overs. If the breeder you chose sells a lot of pups they will be your best information source. Good luck.
