where i train on the other side of the road there is a new water reservoir. i have 3 of these within minutes of my house. these are an area that is dug out to collect drainage. my question is are they safe for the dog for training. they are not fenced in and there shapes make for perfect training ponds with points and bays. http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u179/johnsbritt_photos/pondpictures009.jpg

I'd be very careful to use this type of pond -- if it's a drainage pond then there may be chemicals and other materials that are dangerous to your dog's health -- especially since it could be drainage from more than just ground water -- it appears that those are storm sewers but it's hard to tell -- either way better safe than sorry

They look like nice training areas and if your serious about using them and the ground is clean with no broken glass, you could get the water tested if it did not cost to much. just my 2 cents worth

Any ministry of health office will test the water for free if you tell them it's a drinking water supply.
Not sure what their response will be if the test comes back toxic and you have to disclose that it was from a drainage pond.

this drainage area is set up for future housing as there is nothing north of it but fields and bush. it is across the street from the river and parkland where i train in the mornings. i was thinking of usuing it only before houses start going up.no marc its actually in ajax. there are several of these around my area and they are unfenced and treed and grassed. if they are used for rain water runoff then i would consider but if its connected to catch basins i wouldn't as you never know what people throw down them (gas/oil/and anything else people are to lazy to take to there local transfer station). will go down to the town and ask a planner.
