Do you think that if a new e-collar was purchased off of Ebay that the manufacturer would still back the warranty? The collar I am wanting to purchase is $349 CDN up here and a bunch of them have gone for $200 US on ebay lately. I like to support the local retailers, but that is quite a significant price difference.

It might depend on the manufacturer. I bought my sportdog sd-2400 from ebay. I have had a couple of issues and they have sent me new replacements, no questions asked and at no charge.

Thanks. It is actually a Sportdog model that I'm looking at, the SD-2000.
As long as the unit is new don't see how the manufacturer could not back it. I get all my "stuff" from Lion Country Supply (lcsupply.com). They are mail order in US, but have all kinds of coupons and freebie items on the go. Had a quick look at their web page and all Sportdog collars come with 3 freebie videos right now. Usually the coupon (you may have to ask for) pays for shipping to Canada. After all the math was done on my last collar I saved about $75. They have 800 phone # and have always talked to someone friendly and helpfull. I don't trust ebay.

Garnet and Shelley Grant (owners of ataboy kennels) recently had a major fire which took their house and a number of their prime breeding brittany spaniels. They pretty much lost everything. Any money you put into buying from them will help them rebuild what they have lost. They are awesome people with great dogs and a passion for the brittany breed. This is just my 2 cents

As long as they are new and have never been registered to anyone ( for warranty purposes) I cannot see why they would not stand behind the warranty.

I have purchased many items new from Ebay and other internet stores and have not had any problems.
In fact I have great service from all of them thus far.

I bought my Collar from Collar CLinic, they are the authorized warranty repair for tri-tronics, and my refurbed collar was a good price.

Hey Guys,
If the price is substantial I say go for it. A word of caution...Sportdog's site does specifically state that warranty is void if purchased form an online auction. Same thing with Dogtra. This is why I don't sell my collars on Ebay.
The other issue is brokerage fees and shipping. Brokerage fees add up quick, With UPS it is minimum of $37 (up to a certain value) then it goes higher. If you have it shipped UPS Expedited or Express brokerage fees are only $5 but the shipping is usually not worth it.

Good point John !!!!
There has been a few times that I have bought something of ebay or in the US that I have gotten a HUGE UPS brokerage bill. I never thought of that when I posted my reply earlier.
I ordered a new compound bow from a dealer in Oregon last year, the reason I got it from him and not up here was he performed his magic on it before he shipped it to me ( he is amazing at coaxing every possible FPS out of it). The UPS bill on a $700.00 bill was nearly $200.00 by the time I payed GST and brokerage fee's ect.....

Another thing is that I have had many new customers come to me only because they were ripped off on Ebay and although Ebay does have buyer protection they still got screwed. Also if the price difference is huge I agree I would order also but if it's that good of a deal you wonder why? The markup of e-collars is not big at all therefore if a $349 collar is going for $200 US I would be skeptical.

It is true you can be ripped off on Ebay, but I have been burned by stores as well with bad customer service and not standing behind what they sell.
If you check out the sellers Feedback and do your homework you should be fine. The brokerage can be a deal breaker but I travel down to the US for trials and usually ship to a friends house and bring it home from there. Saves me quite a bit of money usually.

I've purchased from e-bay 6 times and only had one problem - item arrived in damaged condition.
