Since I got the message in the Mods forum that there was going to be some changes to the upland section, I have been doing some thinking about it.
It's our (upland dog people) choice whether this area stays open or not. It has been here for a long time, and used infrequently. I have to bear my share of the blame too, I don't post too much in the upland section either. But I'm sure there are other members like me, I enjoy reading the retriever stuff, but I get the most use out of the "On the tailgate" and "Canine Health issues" areas of the forum. Now there are a whole host of people posting here. That's great. But if it only lasts a couple weeks or a month, then we will be right back here in the new year. So really it's up to us if it stays around or not.
I think the big difference between the lab guys and the pointer guys is, there are more groups that meet more regularly on the Lab side. By and large for pointers there is NAVHDA and that's about it for organized clubs that meet regularly.
I will sticky this for a while in the upland forum, just remember it's our choice we can use it or lose it.

In my Forum Announcement posts I mentioned that numbers in our group are much lower than retrievers so consequently the activity will be lower in the Upland section. I still don't know or have an answer to my question, why the lack of activity in the area is resulting in streamlining and possible elimination of the section? :lame:

With only a small percentage of the membership it is only logical that we(upland dog owners) do not post as much as you(retriever owners). It seems we are being penalized for a lack of vocalization.

Please check out the latest post from Admin in the announcement thread.....there has been a bit of an uproar today about potential changes to the board. We have listened to the members of the board and have decided to limit the changes here for now.

The board is in the hands of the upland members of the board now...it is up to you if you want it to stay or not.

Us Upland guys dont need help with anything!
The lab guys are using up all the disk space with "help my dog wont retrieve" and "help my dog is giving the finger again" kinda of posts.... :stirpot:
Just kidding guys, well be good. And we will post here more often

I post on many forums , dog and hunting and fishing etc.

there are some times when , for some reason the postings are slow .

Like I said initially , I didnt know this sight existed , so hopefully

the upland part will stay in tact . I hunted pheasants and quail

in the mid western USA for nearly 20 yrs . and am fairly conversant with

the American dog attitude. I found it particularly amusing , the other

day when a poster from Tennesee, On Versatile dogs suggested

that the canadian guys on the sight were kind of pushy and overbearing.

And seem to always want things their way , and quite argumentive

about things they didnt seem to know alot about..like dogs , hunting ,

etc....LMAO

Like the site and like the upland section. Like to see it stay as well.
Us upland/versatile guys may be a more diverse group than the retriever group? An uninformed opinion, but from what I've seen retriever training is similar for all the competitive venues. The upland (pointing dog) trainer may vary in interests from field trials to hunt tests to NAVHDA, to guys who just appreciate dogs and "only" go hunting with them. The English Pointer owner, who runs all age trials has different interests and training goals than the NAVHDA guy working on his "search for duck".
It seems from the tone and banter of the threads in the retriever section that alot of you know each other from other sites/training trialing, while I know or have met only a couple on the forum. Don't see any "Pros" yet in the upland section either, maybe a reluctance to spend the time and effort to try and help only to be shot down as "Know it alls" as has happened from time to time on other boards. I don't always post an opinion on a training method or technique as although I know what's worked for me, I'm by no means an expert.
It may take time for the upland/pointer guys to get here, as was mentioned the retriever crowd seems tighter knit, but I appreciate that this is a Canadian site and is well moderated. Hopefully the pointer guys will come.

Hopefully the pointer guys will come.

I hope they do and will keep trying to get new members here. We even have another PP owner here Tom.

I suspect that you could count all the pointing dog "Pros" operating in Canada on one hand.

Yeah, but they both need the same dog to work with. A good dog is a good dog.
