Was up at the cottage for the weekend...went out for a little rabbit hunt half hour left of day light. Ran across a set of fairly fresh fox tracks so I settled down for a bit after staying quiet and looking for a place to call from. Just as I was about to blow the predator call 2 birds flushed from the snow to roost.
I took one let the other go. I dont like to shoot too many birds at the cottage, I like to leave some for next year. Anyway my father in law was there at the cottage and he had grouse for the first time and really liked it. It was a little too fresh though "chewy" but very good. Used the shake and bake method!
Only regret is I did not have the dogs with me. (was going on a bunny/coyote hunt) Would of been handy, the snow was up to my ass. It was the first bird I had to pick up in years...
