View Full Version : Grouse Habitat Work
Looks like my grant is going to be accepted for a cfwip grant! Going to get advice from the biologists, but what else besides aspen and high bush cranberries would you plant for grouse habitat?

Around here the grouse feed on the dried fruit of the Shumack in the winter.

I've seen them budding in birch and apple trees in the winter, and also various dogwood species, some with berries in late fall/winter. I think buds are their mainstay in the winter, birch, aspen, poplar. They also use dense areas of evergreens/cedar for roosting if there's not enough snow cover.
