[SIZE="3"]Not wanting to make our folks at home a little jealous but the weather here in Florida has been great for training.I know that Ontario weather has been rotten but for those On-Line subscribers you can refer to 'Favourite Set Ups' in the upcoming edition due out first week of March. (free plug). You'll see many of the set ups used this week and hopefully your weather improves to try them out.
In doing a week summary tonight I see we had a total of 22 Land Marks,5 land blinds,8 water marks and 4 water blinds including both pheasant and duck flyers over the last 5 days.Dogs have had a fair work out.

Hope your weather improves to let you return to some regular 'real' training rather than the 'Experiment Form'

Cheers,
Jim/SIZE]

Thanks for sharing -- seriously though I can't wait to head south myself -- it's too cold and snowy up here

While all that quality training time sounds great Jim, with all the snow here we have been discussing lots of great stuff here. Did you even realize that a dog could eat a dead frog and not get sick:sorry:

Just kidding of course, glad your training is going well. Any chance of anyone snapping a few setup pictures to post onlile for everyone to see. It may help everyone to imagine life without snow again.

Say hi to everyone down there.

Kevin - who is really getting sick of the snow.

It's freezing rain @ my place with a high of plus 4 today. So much for my big plans of teaching the dogs anything this winter.
Maybe I should have taught them how to ice skate.

Jim, I must know you better than these people that are happy for you. I am happy for Joan if she is still in Ontario and doesn't have to put up with you.
22 set ups - give me a break! You couldn't figure out 1 set up. Greener or Bev must be doing the set ups and running their dogs before you get up to go golfling.

Love Peter

Peter,

Peter,Peter, Peter,

Blake is with the other 2-he's North of 7

I'm here with Dennis and no we didn't do 22 set ups, we did 22 land marks-actually did 4 more today and water blinds yesterday and today along with poison birds.
Blakey will be really disappointed that he(really the brains in the outfit) can't even do one set up.
On a serious note we have been agressively 'themeing' our set ups finishing last week with check down drills repeated several times in different locations starting on land and progressing to water. Short retireds get very interesting when used in connection with a flyer station but you alredy know that.
Dennis has been shooting some excellent pics-I'll see if he will post a couple.

Cheers,
Jim

Peter,
Not sure if this will come through-today's water blind,426 yds,
Dogs came to line for a cold honour, running dog picked up a long single.Next dog to line runs a 385yd land blind off to one side of the seen mark. Returns to line to run the water blind shown-it is down the shoreline on the right over 2 points passed a post that you will see. There is a 200 yd land entry first. To finish off you run the long single for the next dog to cold honour. This bird is a ditch bird-somewhat of a theme for cover/ditches which had included a flyer in the immediate test before.
If the pic doesn't come through it's back to the drawing board for me.

Cheers,
Jim

Got your e-mail with the picture Jim but I see that Dennis beat me to it.

Looks great but you know without all the snowbanks and ice it all looks pretty straight forward:sorry:

Thanks Kevin,
Camera was set too big-had to resize then ok.This was a tough one-200 yd entry, about 225 down the shore. All the while watching a gunner just out of the pic on the right that had thrown for the cold honour. We'll try to get some set up pics tomorrow. This pic probably doesn't do it justice.

Just wondering about the line to the blind...is it to the right or left of that 14 foot gater??:yikes:
Seriously, does one encounter any difficulties with the local wildlife there while training?

You reminded me of what a FTer from down Georgia (named Rusty Mead for anyone who might remember him) said once at a FT in Sudbury years ago -- Rusty's dog had been running a Qual water blind in a beaver pond in the old Burwash property and was taking a fairly straight line -- he was about 3/4 of the way to the blind when a beaver in the corner of the pond must have seen the dog and slapped its tail in warning creating a big splash -- the dog veered off line but Rusty handled him back to the blind -- later after the tailgate (and somewhat lubricated) and receiving the ribbon his dog got for placing, Rusty explained (in a very Southern accent) "That down south we don't got beavers, but we got gators -- they don't slaps their tails, they just eat the dogs"

After a Grand Eden and a friend were being entertained by the good ole boys from the south and the topic of gators getting a dog or two came up. Without batting an eye Don said we had no worries about gators getting a dog but every so often we lost one to the polar bears. You could have heard a pin drop. If this snow continues his statement might become true.

Jim, :sorry: since some people think that judges are political, I will formally apologize as I got my Jim's mixed up. And since you are judging the national amateur, I will tell everyone reading this that you are one of the best set up judges on the circuit. If that is not enough, you are a great trainer and handler (that should do it!):1:

I would love be there as I know the type of training that you are getting - great set ups, land, water and a knowledgeable training group. Who could ask for more. Continued good training and see you in the spring.

I won't apoligize to Blakey as I won't be running under him for another year and hopefully he will forget my smart a.. comments.

Peter.

Didn't get the picture, but whose property are you training on?

Peter,
You should be able to get that pic now that Dennis put it on. He has some other shots of our training the last 2 days just outside of Gainesville. That particular piece of water was just the other side of Mr Lardy's house. Water here is fantastic especially where we are staying-'the' very best that you will find anywhere.
Thanks for the 'suck up' but being a good buddy I don't sweat it-however Blakey's coming tomorrow-I'll explain to him.
Hope things are good with you.

Scott,
You're quite right-miss the coffee but lots of opportunities for a cold one on hot days. Besides that we have all this water around us.
http://www.canadianhuntingdogs.com/forums/imagehosting/1147c3414265e30.jpg
You'll see a dog in the last 'channel' blind which is a 3-peat on that concept-all within feet of each other-meaning 3 opportunities to practise the concept.
Cheers

Jim, I would really like to see some pics of the tests at the Snowbird field trial. I would think alot of the readers would be interested in seeing them also. Try to get some of the minor stakes as well.

Peter.

PS. Good luck at the trial. Remember you, Dennis, Jerry Burmaster and few others are representing Ontario amateurs!:greenwithenvy:

That's not fair at all:thmdn: I'm sitting here in a winter hell unable to run crappy "winter marks" due to snow/ice and you go and post those pictures of some really great water ponds:ban: I'm sitting here drooling at the possible set-ups with 2 borderline depressed dogs at my feet. Very nice:jerry:
