So once again Chris and I went out to Gold Creek for a hunt. Joining us this time was Ryan (MunsterRyan) and his dog Holly. Dogs worked extremely well. The shooters on the hand would have been better as Chris put it to "throw the guns at the birds" as we would have been more likely to hit them that way. We must have put up at least 20 birds.. but alas, we only managed to hit 6. Apparently I need to work on my shooting. The dog still need some work on being steady to wing and shot, but that it is not a real difficult task. As usual Ed was an excellent host and we always have a great time out there. We could not have asked for a better day. Check out one vid of the day on my personal webspace www.mnsi.net/~jkmales. Its called VID1.MOV and it is in quick time format. Here are some pictures:

If you haven't been to Gold Creek yet.... better put it on your list of must hunt places in the future.

Hey Guys
I went out a couple days after and did some training on my 7 month old setter I used a couple of pheasants but didn't shoot any as I'm training him to stay steady to the flush. Great day before this darn cold weather set in.

I tried to watch the video but didn't have any luck. Enjoyed the pics. though.

Getting my 2 girls tuned up for spring trials. First one is March 29

This will be the first year I've had 2 dogs in the Shooting Dog Stake at the same time. It will be more expensive and require more fast walking on the same day. Hope I'm up to it.
Need to pick up some quail soon as they are the spring bird of choice.

I am so excited.. I have booked one more hunt at Gold Creek for next monday.. One more chance for Mac and I to get some birds and for more experience. I would say wish me luck.. but I think it would be better to wish me skill as my shooting still completely sucks. Will post pics and results after the hunt. :first:

So I am finally getting a change give you all the hunt report. My buddy Darren, his dad Jack, my dog Mac and I went out to Gold Creek on Monday. with it being wet the scent I think sticks to the ground a little more, but that being said the dog pointed 6 of the nine birds we had put out. It was a succesful hunt and we had a great time. Darren's dad was excited as he was an old Pelee Island hunter and had not been out in about 10 years. Mac is not steady to wing and shot.. so I have some work to do there and he not retrieving to hand yet though he brings the bird part way.. these are small things to work out. I am very happy with how my dog has performed this first year hunting with him. On another note.. it should only be another week now before I find out if we whether the next brittany litter will ahve a female liver and white. So excited. Again my thanks to Ed at Gold Creek. Awesome facility, great management, decent birds.. just a great place to hunt. Thanks Ed.

Nice work. I actually prefer to hunt right after a rain or snow. I find there is better secenting conditions and the dogs can track wounded birds much better. I dont like to hunt while its raining though. Makes for some bad scenting soncditions.

Ya raining while you are out is no fun. Washes all the scent away and alot more work cleaning the gun afterwards.
