Has anyone done the Peele Island hunt in the fall?

I have found the "clean-up" hunts to be good. Not as many birds, but not as many hunters either. The Ferry tends to be the unpredictable part.

I have gone for the last 5yrs with the same group and have had no problem . Some times you will meet up with another group but you just change the way you are going or they will. The only problem we have had is we had to stay an extra day because the Ferry was not running because of bad weather. Never got shot or the bad dog story's . We have had alot of fun and came back with our limit every year but 1 and we where short 1 bird each over the 5 years.I will be there again this year unless the big guy up stairs changes my plans. I went two years ago for the clean up hunt. It was great exposure for my young pup, we got our limit in the first afternoon and ended up heading home early. We did not run into many hunters and there were birds everywhere(the farmers took the crops off late that year so there were lots of birds for the clean up)

This past year we had our licenses bought, ferry arrange etc and canceled the trip for a wild grouse hunt. We went to a target rich environment(spruce, ruffed, hares etc) had lots of fun, the hawk was able to come(I would not take him to Peele) and we almost filled our moose tag(but thank full that we didn’t because it would have been a long walk out of the bush).

I enjoyed the Peele hunt, I will take my next pup for intro/exposure but until then I will be chasing the wild birds.

I have been twice to the "regular" hunts. It is quite an experience and I think everyone should try it once.

The regular hunts are VERY busy - lots of hunters, birds, dogs, and shooting.

I refer to it as World War III!!!

I am surprised more hunters and dogs are not injured - but they seem to make it work.

I have not been to a "clean-up" hunt but if I went again it would be to one of these hunts.

Just my 2-cents.

We regularly hunt the Island, great exposure for the dogs, can be hectic the first couple hours.

There is talk of a rule change whereby clean up licenses will only be sold to hunters who had previously purchased a regular license. Not sure if this has happened or not, but something to look into.

All the best

I hope not.:worms:

Last year they changed the pricing so that anyone that had not purchased a "regular" hunt license had to purchase the "clean-up" hunt license at twice the price of a hunter that had purchased the regular season license. :boo:
