I'm sure this has been brought up before but just wondering what is anyone's opinion on the differences and challenges of running a HRC Seasoned vs CKC SH test???

CKC senior longer distances on marks and blinds
honour on one test
quarting test which messes up all the work you have put into running a straight line to the blind.
recognition of titles by AKC
UKC -walk up the biggest challenge, it really revs the dog up
- handling the gun at the line
Both have there merits and there is room for eveyone to play.

Having just run both last summer with Taylor, I would say
1) Senior marks are harder
2) Senior blinds can be 100 yards, Seasoned only 60 yards.
3) Yes, you have to do an honour in Senior
4) You have to do quartering in Senior
5) You don't have to shoot in Senior, although you may have to hold a fake gun!

So if you are handling a fake gun in Senior, you don't have to worry about having the gun "Safe"?...lol...like we do in UKC...lol
You know what I'm talking about...

all though you are carrying a fake gun you can fail for gun safety

In Senior Hunter you don't have to dress from head to toe in Camo. Any appropriate pants will do with your camo shirt.:worms: :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy:

The comment about gun safety was directed at Tollerlover...she'll know what I'm talkin' about...we had a good chuckle on Sunday at our training day...

:hand: Sorry to burst your bubble, but we've infiltrated HRC as well....Bwaa ha ha! I seem to recall a UKC Best in Show, UKC/CKC Ch. flatcoat getting his UH in 4 straight passes at Essex last month.....
Anyhow, back to the original question, I'm planning to do seasoned with my guys before they run SH as it seems like a good progression of skills and difficulty.
Fluffy to the line, regards!:harhar:

Hey Shelly,
I checked out your website, wanted to see if I recognized any goldens in the pedigrees, and I this pic caught my eye...

HRC is more about trying to make thier tests more hunter-esk with shorther distances, full camo, and gun safety, whereas the CKC is alittle more lax on gun safety and the head to toe camo, but generally have tougher tests.
quarting test which messes up all the work you have put into running a straight line to the blind.
Regarding this point I do not agree! I think that a dog that has been trained more than a couple of times to quarter knows what it is about and that it is much different than a blind, not detramental to the dogs training.

Yup, you did see the handler on TV. Graeme was featured in that "Going to the Dogs" show, before he showed Monty (my boy's littermate) for my friend though. Unfortunately the program chose to focus on some of the more looney aspects of the show world. There are admittedly quite a few head cases there, but we aren't all like that!! By contrast many of my "show friends" think I'm nuts for running around in camo with a gun, and letting my dog rip out that show coat busting through brush after birds!!
The dogs field folks would be more likely to recognize would be in my youngster's pedigree--her dam comes from a more blended pedigree with the old Golden field lines behind it.

Sorry to hear you cant make our test Frank, I get to shoot a shit load of poppers in Started,,, :cheesy: But I will see you guys at your test. Last year you guys rocked Cathy & I had a ball. So get ready to make some puppy money in started, Ill be bringing 5 dogs.
Kevin, My two pups just seen water this week and the other two got a few swims last fall at the age of 8 weeks. I'm very pleased with the results, but will only have a month to get them doing water retrieves before our test in May. Plus I want to concentrate on doing my best at the test helping out, its my first time and I'm a bit scared. I want Cathy to run Kaliska though so she can get the feel of it.
Didn't mean to hi-jack this post Remington, but I will say I enjoy HRC over CKC at this time, later when my dogs are in a higher class I might try CKC again.

Nothing to be scared about Tom, speaking from experience it is a long day in the field when you are "bird boy'ing" but it is also enjoyable watching all the dogs run. Just concentrate on throwing the same "Quality" of mark time after time and you will do fine.

Sorry Drew, I should of explained better, my job is firing the gun for the handlers, not to sure what all is involved but safty will be the main factor if a handler decides to shoot. I know the handler can ask me to move back in started if his dog is shy. Cathy will be a marshall, the one that calls the dog order to line, shes pretty excited too! Ill throw birds to if they need me!

I'll am the marshall for seasoned at our test, so make sure you're running Kaliska in seasoned by then!
