Service Dog Training

I was reading "Canucks" post on the introduction thread, and I was just wondering who else has trained the dogs for service work. What kind of work was it, and what training was involved? As well, how did your occupation fit into the scheme of things?

Hey Mike,
I have also looked into rearing puppies and doing some training for the CNIB however due to me living 1900 km away from the Toronto area they decided it would not be in their best interest to have a puppy up here. Which I found unfortunate but it all comes down to money and they felt they could not properly monitor the pup at that distance.
I have also looked at rearing pups for Police Departments that have their own breeding programs, laying the foundation work for them to move on and hopefully complete all training to be a full police service dog. That is something that is still in the works but is moving slow.

My dream job would be to be able to do the base training for police and/or drug dogs. That is why I originally went into my field during my post-secondary education. I soon found out that it wasn't as easy as it seemed at the time. What a disappointment.:cry_1:
