Happy Monday everyone! :thmdn:

I am wondering when everyone here switches their dogs over to adult food. I've been reading a variety of things, from people who feed adult food from 8 weeks, to people who feed puppy food to 24 months.

I am sure it is one of those personal preference things, but I'd like to know the reasoning behind why people do what they do.

Thanks!

I feed mine large breed puppy food until they are 12 months. I have done this for all my labs. I have read that there is too much calcuim in adult food and that can cause them to grow to fast. Usually around 12 months they have reached the hieght that they are going to obtain and that is when I will do the switch over.

I feed all my pups Euk LB puppy until they are around 5-6 months old, then switch onto Euk LB adult. Drew is right that there is too much calcium in adult food for small pups, but their biggest growth spurt is between 2-6 months. Most pups after that still grow but at a much slower rate. There are always exceptions, but I have found that with all my dogs.

I go from 4 to 6 months depending on the dog, the reason is to slow down the rapid growth that pupies have, this gives the young weaker tendons time to strengthen, in esence catching up with the rest of the pups body.

I think all of mine have been on adult food by the time they are about 8 months or so. Kind of depends when the last bag runs out.
