Hello all, I am new to this site. I am 27 years old and have a 6 year old male Chessie that with help, I trained and have hunted with ever since. I have recently been given a year old female Chessie that I am in the middle of training. She has basic obedience pretty much down so I think it's time to move on. I want to force fetch her and if I can I would love to train her for hand signals.
Now for my question: After I had the male Chessie trained, I had a chance to buy a shock collar (Tri-tronics flyway special) witch I purchased. I am scared to use it, just don't want to put the dog off training. So far she is enjoying it. I have heard so many differant ways of using it that I just don't know what to think. I would very much appreciate help on this matter. I would be willing to meet with someone for help on a Sunday afternoon, I live in Prince Edward County.
Thanks...greenhead

The ecollar is one of the best tools you will get to work your dog. Did you get the Tritronics CD or tape with your collar? They come with them. If they did not contact Tritronics and get a copy for your model or borrow someone else's. These show you exactly how to start your dog on the collar. There are other videos you can buy later to do more advanced training with the collar, but the TT ones set the groundwork. Don't be afraid of it, once you get used to it you will use it all the time. The #1 rule though is to only use the collar as an enforcement tool for solidly known commands. You cannot teach your dog new fundamentals with it. If you want some quick start advise PM me. Good luck.

This is the great thing about this board. Someone asks a question and several people jump in and try and help out and offer to get together and train.

:nice work: Everyone.
