I have two boats that I want to paint camo on for waterfowl huninting. One is a cheap sport pal aluminum job already painted with moss green colour the other a cheap plastic canoe. Any advice on the type of paint you would use that is durable and will stick? Colours you would use? I hunt a lot in the long grass late in the season, the reeds are turning yellow from green then.

Any advice on this would be helpful even on how to paint a pattern on the canoe, any tricks to make it look real?

I used the Krylon camo spry paint from Can Tire and seems to be staying on reasonably well, paint adhesion depends alot on the prep work. Most recommend a good sanding and wipe down with acetone pre painting. As far as camo pattern I went with large geometric pattern ala WWII battleship and it use Mojo "Blind Ghillie" nets over if hunting marsh/grass cover. I think the fine detailed camo patterns all turn into one blob of dark colour when viewed from a distance

You may want to check out "the duck and goose hunters refuge" in the "boats blind and gadgets" forum. They've got some "stickied" how to questions and answers on boat painting and stencilling

Here's an old link to my boat... And the process we've used...

The paint is holding up fine, aside from the cast aluminum piece on the nose and two corners, maybe should have given them more teeth...

Here are some pics of the boat I put together last year. I bought the boat in AR and did the rest of the work up here myself...

The inside shelves, I just used the krylon colors. I tried to use the camoclad stickers, but lacked the patience...

The outside of the boat, I used the Nat gear colors and mats. I opted only to use the two colors... there was supposed to be a red layer as well, but I didn't think it would work well for where I hunt.
