I was out training Fozzie today and we had a great time. I was with Randy LeClair and Nitro. We did quite a few setups and he was very helpful and patient. He got his chest waders on and went out into the pond to help with doing a blind retreive for Fozzie, although he didn't do a full retreive demonstration as others have been know to do ( eh Quack?). Thanks Randy!!

On the way home I stopped and let Fozzie out and I noticed there was some blood in her kennel, when I examined her she had about a 1/4" to 1/2" slice on one of her right rear pads. When I got home, you could see some of the fleshy part. My wife brought the first aid kit and held her while I put a gauze pad on it and wrapped it up. Fozzie has left if along but after about 1/2hr you could see the blood start to show. I am assuming I will have to take her to the vets first thing in the morning and get it looked at. I hope she will be okay for Ottawa in 2 weeks.

Geez Eric - I am sorry to hear about this!!

It was such a great day out there today. I don't think there was any glass around, and Nitro went into most of the same spots that Fozzie covered (Nitro is fine by the way). Fozzie was doing great and really enjoying herself.

The only place I can think of that Fozzie went into was up on that island that I was hiding behind. There are some sharp sticks and brush on that island.

I also have some "stuff" that I carry in my training bag in case of such an event. It is too bad we didn't notice it sooner.

Nitro has had a number of nicks and scrapes (he is also prone to interdigital cysts between his toes) over the years. The main thing is to keep it clean and let them rest it. Nitro is usually over these things in about three days (four or five if it is deep). The bandage may not be that useful, but it may stop a mess from being created throughout the house.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to assist. I am sure she will be fine by the time Ottawa rolls around.

My old lab cut her pad in the middle of hunting season, a friend of mine said clean it out really good with hydrogen peroxide squeeze it together and crazy glue it. worked like a charm. I asked him where he heard of it and he said he does it to himself when he gets a cut at work, he is a maintenance guy, cuts are common working on machines.

Hi Randy, I don't know where she might have done it, she did not show any signs when we were doing our last drill but we were running in grass so it may not have bothered her then.

I took her to the vet's this morning and they looked at it and put a better bandage on her foot and gave me some antibiotics to give her and some medicine for the pain, not that she is showing any signs of discomfort. I have to bring her back on Wednesday for her to be looked at again and they figured that bandage could come off on Friday. I have pet insurance for accidents so it is suppose to cover stuff like this so no big deal.

I forgot about the super glue, I had heard about that before but just didn't think about it. Also I realized that I don't have a good first aid kit and it isn't that organized. I sort of had stuff around just in case but I didn't have it all in one place and in a handy spot or in the truck.
