Hey,

I was in a local pet store today picking up some food for the dogs when I noticed the Eukanuba display was twice as large than it was the last time I was in. They have added a pile of new formula's to the shelves such as...

Labrador Retriever
German Sheppard
Boxer
Yorkie
Active dog
and the list goes on....

Thankfully they still had Sporting Breed so I stocked up. This seem's to be the latest trend in Dog food, Royal Canine has a Lab formula also. Do you think that this is just a marketting ploy to get the average consumer to buy their food's or is there some meret to this ( the Lab formula advertised Glucsomine for joint health)

Hopefully krackadawn will see this, he can probably give you some insight into the different blends.

Marketing ploy!
Can you imagine the science required to differentiate to that degree and to suggest that there would be a difference??
Based on what trials and over how many generations?
Best to just stick with quality food that you are happy with.

I looked into the royal canine food around the time they came out with the lab blend. I kind of felt the same way Jim, always thought there was probably no difference.

I saw the new display last time and it threw me for a loop.. trying to find your regular brand just became more complicated... I have to look at the package 6 or 7 times just to make sure I am get Eukanuba medium brand. The packaging has all changed as well. I figure there cannot be that much of a difference... I have question though. The sporting dog formula: How much, and what breeds is it good for? What is the difference between that and the regular medium or large breed euk food???

The main difference between Euk Sporting Dog and regular food is the amount of Protien and fat in it. Sporting Dog has 30% Protein and 20% fat where Large Breed Adult has 23% Protien and 16% Fat.

Sporting Dog is advertised for all Breed sizes but i was told from Euk that it is the exact same formula as Large Breed Permium Performance just renamed.

Drew is correct about the Sporting. It is the same as the old LB premium Performance. There is also an Active formula that is mid way between the LB adult and the Sporting. I accidently got that in my last shipment. The kibble is a lot smaller so I had to guess on how much to give them. The Lab formula is a marketing ploy for the consumers who think they are getting something special for their dogs with this formula. In fact other than a little more Zinc, the formula is identical to the LB adult formula, but a whole lot more expensive. Got that from my Euk rep.

its a marketing ploy. i was talking to a rep when i went to get mine. its a very small difference between the lab and adult. its on a trial to see if its worth continuing.
