Hey,
I was wondering what colour of bumper's you guy's mainly use or do you switch it up all the time ( depending on background ). The reason I am asking is right now I am carrying 12 bumper's out to the winger's ( 6 black and 6 white ) and may change the colour after the first throw.
What I was thinking was getting some of the combo Black & White bumper's, that way they should be decent in any background/lighting conditions. Is it worth it or just stick with the solid bumper's?

We usually use the black & white combo bumpers. Birds are best though:spoton:

I have a bunch of solid white, solid black and solid orange. I also have quite a few half white and half black ones in both 2" and 3". I tend to use the 2" black and white ones the most i guess now that I think about it. If you are throwing bumpers for marks then having a selection is great so you can usually work with any back ground you may be dealing with.

Yes I need to get some more this week. I saved alot from hunting last year ( stuffed them after removing breast) but after a long winter of training they have fell apart.

Drew,
Depending on what club(s) you belong to, find out if they sell their used birds after their test is over. We get a lot of our birds that way. It's a lot cheaper than buying them new and if you check the birds over, you can usually get some decent birds for very little.

We will probably have bird for sale at the end of the day drew, The club usually pulls a few out to keep for training days and then we sell the rest to anyone that wants them.

We have a variety of bumper colours, but tend to use only the white ones for marks when the snow is gone. During the winter we use the black, grey or green. We are very lazy trainers so we have 8 different colours of bumpers. When we are running pattern drills we put a dozen of different colours at each of the stations that way when running multiple dogs we know exactly how many bumpers have come in from each pile.

White for marks especially in "open" areas without background -- black for areas with background -- black/white for marks in either or situations -- also like to use ribbons or streamers for marks -- orange for blinds

Putting the black and white ribbon flags on the bumpers also helps visibility a lot as well. You can add that contrast without investing in a whole other set of bumpers!

We use Dokkens in the water, saves on birds. We also have used them in the winter but the problem with that is we parking lot train and when they hit the ground the heads break. Thank goodness for Bob Tolles he has fixed more than one head for me. He even was able to drill through the body of one to reattach the throwing rope. They sometimes can take a wicked bounce.
As to you Marv you know that for every bumper of mine you use I take it out of your hide eventually.

We have 12 red canvas,12 white cavas,12 black canvas, 12 black white canvas, for winter training and young dogs. summer 24 white,3", 12, 2"orange, 24,2" white and 12, 2" black and white. the smaller bumpers are used for pile work and blinds as it is easier to carry 20 or so bumpers out to the field. It all depends what the back ground is to what gets used. You can never have to many bumpers!!!
