Well, Trigger came out on his first two hunts during the early season. He had excellent expose to goose hunting as we took 34 geese in two hunts. I had him in a dog blind next to me which worked out great! I zipped up the door to ensure he held on the shots (for safety reasons). His prior experience with live/dieing birds was limited at best and it showed in the field. He ran to fetch, but simply couldn’t get around to picking up the bird to return it. Allot of mouthing and disobedience. He simply wouldn’t fetch or come. I didn’t want to put any pressure (e-caller) as I was in doubt of the end result. He knows this stuff.. What happened?
Prior training with a dead goose:
I’ve been tossing a dead goose for him during training, and he's doing well retrieving in the backyard scenario. He's doing even better retrieving them in the water!
What can I do to improve his work ethic during the hunt? At this point, I don't want to throw him off with too much pressure. I’m really lost here.
At this point, I’m thinking of going pack to the ear pinch force fetch with a dead goose.
