Both of my BLM's coats have a brownish,or bronze tinge to their coats.Could this be from the swim waters I have been working them in,or perhaps diet related?
Please someone assure me they are not turning into them there Chocolats.:stirpot:
Thanks Bryan.

They're not turning Chocolate they're just getting smarter.:cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy:
Could be sun, chroline etc. I know of a few blacks with the same good fortune.
You might try changing dog foods. Try Royal Canin Lab 30.

I was told by a professional breeder that black labs come in two shades of the color black. There is the blue black and the brown black. My oldest is a blue black...and the pup has the brownish tint as well, so I guess she is brown black. Doesn't mean anything other then that. Still all beautiful and still called Black.

Cash is black and has a nice shine to him in the sun, almost slick looking. He had a brownish tinge when on the Royal Canin, but since I have had him on the Eagle Pack his coat looks awesome. Side note, since I switched Abbie off of the Purina Pro Plan (now on Royal Canin), my lawn is green again, no yellow spots.

I had also heard that if they have white markings that they could possibly yellow factored too......I was a little excited because Amber has the white bolo marks, and the brown tinge..., but Health Gene DNA testing said nope....that she is just black. Not sure how accurate it is, but thats the info that came back to me.
Does the food they eat really have something to do with the coloring? I feed Canidae chicken and rice. I was using Eagle pack for the big dogs up until last year. Loved the ingredient list...HATED the price tag.

Lots of sun, water, with possibly less oil in the coat due to workload, or diet will result in that coloration. You may be surprised how alittle grooming and extra food will bring them back to slick black.

Thanks for the replies everyone. My oldest is Choc sired, and I have always noticed a slight brownish tinge with him in direct sunlight, but it has become very noticable on him lately, especially on the top of his head, even in low light.
My young guy has always been blue/black,and now has a slight brown tinge in direct sunlight.I have been working them hard, and have not been as vigilant(?) with their grooming lately,so hopfully Trent's suggestion with get them Back in Black. If more grooming and extra food doesn't work on the eldest,I suspect his food may be too acidic and will have to take measures to stabalize his Ph.level, perhaps with ACV.I will post results.
Cheers Bryan.
