What is everyone using for aftermarket choke tubes.

Was thinking of getting a patternmaster after talking to a few guys that use them.

I have been using Briley chokes in both my 12 gauges and also the 20.

Been using the WadWizard Supreme, and it's awesome. I can attest to it not being hype!

Hey Kevin,

I have been using the HS Undertaker the last couple of years and find it is pretty good. Not a very expensive choke as I recall.

KICK'S has come out with their long-range waterfowl version and I purchased one at the end of last season. I use KICK'S when I shoot Sporting Clays and found them to be good - so I am interested in seeing how they do on ducks and geese.

I have to say the two that seem to be mentioned the most is either the Patternmaster or the WadWizard.

As they say at the gun club - "It ain't the arrow, it is the indian". In other words, it is not just the equipment it is also dependent on the shooter. Make sure you practise too!!

After I bought Briley chokes for my SX2 I patterned both the briley chokes & the factory ones with trap loads and steel.
There were fewer holes in the pattern with the briley chokes.

Picked up a patternmaster tonight at St.Lawrence Outfitters.

Cannot wait to put some shells through it on the weekend.

I picked up a Pattern Master choke a little while ago. Had it out a few times - it works great when I do my job.

I do not buy into the notion of a 3 dimensional pattern that both Patternmaster and WadWizard tout. It is marketing at it's finest.

From what I've seen, at 40 yards, a shot string is about 10 feet. Let's assume these chokes can reduce the shot string by 20%, which means there is a difference of 2' between the shot string of both chokes. At 1300fps, this means the duck will have an additional .0015 second of movement. Assuming it's a mallard flying at a crossing pattern at 40 mph, this means it will travel about an additional inch in that allotted time. I don't think an inch is a significant enough difference, even if the product does what it says it will do.

I use a Riley IC choke for decoying birds and a Terror .675 for passing shots. I like the fact that the Patternmaster is ported. Would help with the 3 1/2" shells.

Good luck

Kevin just make sure to tighten the choke after you have shot, The Pattern Master tends to back out of the barrel after its had some rounds through it.

Interesting Scott because I noticed lasy weekend that it had loosened a bit so I started checking it more regular and found it every now and then a little loose. Not much but enough that you feel it tighten a bit. I was actually thinking about putting a drop of lock tight on it at some point.

Thanks for the tip.

Kevin,I would stay clear of the loctite on your choke tube, unless it was a very low strength.I have extended chokes on my Ber.391 that like to come loose.I put a drop of nail polish on the choke threads & it seemed to work very well.Just a suggestion.

I will try the nailpolish thing maybe, not really a big deal as I seem to be in the habbit of checking it almost every time I shoot now. I can sometimes feel it move just a little bit and other times it is nice a tight.

Thanks
