Took the day off today to chase a few pheasants at Hullett.
I think that they say that a bad day hunting is better than a good day at work. Of course, there are good days hunting too.

The morning was a bit slow with only two bird contacts and one in the bag.
After BBQ lunch in the parking lot and a nice chat with Dilly and his two roosters, the afternoon picked up quite a bit.

Those are some nice looking roosters Jixer! I heard through the grapevine that some guys over on the West side got into a big patch of birds that may have been recently released. The birds this year at Hullet are the best I have ever seen. Nice talking to you and your buddies too. Its always nice to mingle with guys with good taste in dogs and guns! I still feel a little bad about Kaiser getting snarly though. After lunch there, I packed it in and went back to nursing my cold. Here is a picture of my dog and the birds we got.

He looks rather smug in this picture...probably because he caught that one rooster. I never heard or saw a thing, he just walked up to my side, sat down with it in his mouth, and delivered it to hand...german wirehaired catcher...

Another thing, your big britt looks alot like my Dad's old male. His dog was out of Hidden Creek. Is yours?

Hey Dilly, No problems with the dogs. It looked like they both got over it soon enough.
Dave and I broke in his Tobin in the middle section and ended up with 5. I told the other guys to try the field across the road on the west side, but I haven't talked to them again yet. Maybe they got lucky over there?

Were you hunting any of the fields that the test was run on?

We did the trial area in the morning and dug into some deeper stuff for the afternoon.

With places like that hunting from a horse is feasible.

Hullett pheasant manager? changed their feed this year to corn. Seemed to have made a big difference in the birds. No hunting for me this fall due to health but a friend of mine went out with 3 other guys and 2 excellent pointers and bagged 10 birds. The one dog pointed 8 of them.

I thought that they changed from corn to wheat this year?

I'd heard to corn, but I could be wrong.
