View Full Version : Bummer evening!
I had the unpleasant task of having to have my older springer put down this evening. He has been going downhill real fast with rapid weight lost, for the past 2 days. He was not eating well for 5-6 days and slowing down. Vet said he had all the symptoms of cancer of the splean and reccommend I have him put down and not delay with any more tests. Wife and I very upset. The other dogs will miss him also. We love you Pekoe and miss you.

I am sorry for your loss Dan.
The Last Battle
If it should be that I grow frail and weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
then you must do what must be done
For this, the last battle, can't be won.
You will be sad, I understand,
Don't let the grief then stay your hand,
For this day more than all the rest
Your love and friendship stand the test.
We've had so many happy years,
What is to come can hold no fears.
You'd not want me to suffer so;
When the time comes, please let me go.
Take me where my needs they'll tend
And stay with me, if you can, to the end.
Hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time, you will see,
It is a kindness you do for me.
Although my tail its last was waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.
Don't grieve that it should be you,
Who must decide this thing to do,
We've been so close, we two, these years;
Don't let your heart hold any tears.
Smile, for we walked together for a little while

Sorry for your loss, when I lost my dog a few years ago I was told bury him in your heart and he will always be with you.

That sucks Dan. We went through something very similar with our sheppard a few years ago. Dramatic weight loss, peeing blood etc. When I took him to the vets at 630 one evening. They called the next morning to say they found him dead by 700. Doc said they were pretty sure he just waited for us to be gone. It's a tough time, you and your family are in my thoughts. And like I told my wife at the time, if it didn't hurt then you haven't been loving your dog right while he was alive. Take care.
