BdBHunts

I was out Saturday with some friends and we had a great time. Especially since it may be the last field hunt for a while as I am moving east and will be hunting small ponds or salt water for eiders and scooters. We were ready for the ducks first thing but they landed in a pond at the end of the field. Eventually they lifted off and we got some shooting, it wasn't fast and furious like other hunts they have had there there, but more relaxed. The birds ended up coming from all directions so we turned a couple of the layouts so that all approaches were covered. I have never seen so many birds in the air while hunting before, at one point there was about 500 ducks and 200 geese flying around us. Even though they were not decoying in it was still amazing to see. I was told that last year there was even more birds on one hunt they had. A group of 7 snow geese fly by but they wouldn't come in range, that would have been a nice bonus. A highlight for me was a getting a pintail. I have only seen them in magazines, never over the decoys. We ended up with a limit of ducks including two blacks and two pintails with the rest mallards and 2 shy of a goose limit.
