My Pelee Trip

This year's trip started off with the usual problems. The ferry trip before us was cancelled so our reservations were bumped to the next sailing. We decided to go down early in the morning anyway just in case we could still get on stand by. We ended up only getting 2 of our 4 vehicles on, but at least we made it over. Coming home was just as bad. Our Sat. ferry was cancelled and we had to stay an extra day. At least the food was good.:first:

The hunt was windy and cold (but still way better weather than at home!) but we managed to get into some birds in the more sheltered areas on the far side of the island. Hunter numbers were either up more or everyone was hunting the same area but was still not too bad.
On Saturday, the wind finally settled down a bit, and we could work the open fields. Not too many birds in them as I think they were bedded down in the thick cover, but It was still worth watching the dogs work in the open.




Here is a picture of Wiley on point the first day. If you look really close, you can just make out the wing of a rooster.

Lol. I think that I am almost as cut up as the dogs. A lot of the time in the thick cover I couldn't get in fast enough before the bird snuck away...:boo:
