Does anyone use it on here?? I'm looking for a solution against "TICKS". My Vet said there is noting that will protect 100% against ticks and Advantage Multi is my best route........What are your thoughts?
I haven't used it yet but I plan on getting Advantix, it is supposed to kill ticks, fleas, and stop mosquitos from biting.
Still have to give Heartguard for Heartworm though. I questioned why the heartworm med was required since Advantix repelled mosquitos but they couldn't answer it. The only drawback is if you have a cat around, the liquid will kill cats.
I was told that it was just approved for use in Canada this year so I checked on some of the US forums and the reply's were positive.
Need it soon, had one walking up the back of my neck on monday.

I hear ya!! I've pulled 3 ticks off my dog this past little while and my friend had one between his legs!! :omg:
Do I have to go to the states for this stuff?
Advantix is available in Canada, I am picking up some tomorrow from the vet here. I checked into Frontline Plus, supposed to do the same thing but without the cat issues, but its not approved in Canada yet.
I used K9 Advantix last year and it worked pretty good. Be very careful where you get it though. I ordered mine from an online source out of BC and it turned out to be a forgery right down to the packaging. Made in Australia. It wasn't working and I contacted Bayer. Unless it was made in US it was not Advantix. I bought second batch through Petmeds on Bayer's suggestion. Story had it being legalized in Canada this year, but my vet does not have. It boiled down to the "killing ticks" requiring a pesticide license for the user according to Canadian law. Go figure. If it is available in Canada I'd use it. All the handlers in States use it the most.

I talked to my vet and she was concerned that a topical medication for fleas might not be as effective when the dog is in the water a lot. Is there anyone who has found this to be true? I've got Dax on Advantage for now, but she thought that when I start his heartworm medication in July I should maybe switch over to a chewable tablet for flea control. I noticed however that there is no mention on products like Sentinel protecting against ticks.

You can get Frontline or Frontline Plus from many U.S. based dog supply websites. They will ship directly to you in Canada. Try lions country supply (www.lcsupply.com).

Thanks, I had checked into that and decided against it - I figured since I was dealing directly with my vet I was confident that I was getting the real stuff instead of something else in an Advantix or Frontline Box, maybe it wouldn't matter but...

Our vet recommended the Advantrix. She now carries it and we have got the supply for when we go south.

This was my first year for my dogs on Advantix .It was great. In early spring I found ticks on my dog and as soon as I started using it I never found 1 tick the rest of the year.Worth it as far as I am concerned even though I still had to use the heartworm in conjuction. The only change is I will start them earlier next year.I had to ask my vet about it to begin with as it was something new for them and I had read some good things about from the US states .

Great news it is available in Canada now. As stated in earlier posts all my friends in US where ticks are BAD use it almost exclusively. If I remember correctly it doesn't leave all those oil slicks on the dogs coat like Advantage either. Will have to talk to my vet. Good news indeed.
