Hey all,

I have been lucky over the years and have never really had any major issues that left me on the side of the road until yesterday. I was running around getting some Microchips for the pups and on the way home my truck died. It started about 5 minutes later only to die again a couple of miles down the road and that is where she came to rest....

Found On Road Dead

I had it towed home and after a quick look at it it looked like the fuel pump was the issue. I got on the "Net" to take a quick look to see if there were any common issues that pop up in these trucks ( 2004 F-150) and sure enough I found the solution to my problem.... Fuel Pump Driver Module.

These are located above the spare tire and are bolted to the frame, for some reason Ford needed a module to vary the speed of the fuel pump and this controls the pressure the pump creates. Anyways it gets hammered with salt and road grime and it litterly split in half and had a hole the size of a penny in the back.

Oh well it is only $100 where a pump is $500.

All new domestic vehicles could be found on road dead if the auto sector falls.:rip:

You should also be aware of issues Ford F-150 and spark plugs.. A friend had this happen to his truck and when we started googling it we came up with a lot people having the same issue :|

Ya, I already know about those Greg. I should have dug around a little more when I bought my truck and went for an 05 instead of the '04.

My uncle owns an '04 superduty with the 5.4L and has blown a plug twice while driving down the road.

I cannot complain though, it has been a great truck with very little issues.

It's just crazy that they won't do anything about it......

I've always liked GM's but when they revamped the F-150 that's been the truck I've wanted.. :)

Well once again in my world the four letters on the front of my truck stand for....

Found On Road Dead

A couple of weeks ago I had to go up to Hamilton to pick up something, just as I was approaching Branford the truck started screaming at me and once I looked down at the cluster I realized why... no oil pressure. I shut the truck off and coasted but the damage was done. A $600 towing bill got me home that day...lol

To be honest it has been a great truck, other than the hassle of changing spark plugs and the once that I lost the Fuel Pump Driver Module it has been trouble free for 289 546 kms.

So I have spent the last week searching out a replacement motor, not an easy task trying to find something with low KM's. It seems 2004 was the "odd year out" when it comes to 2004-2008 Ford F150's so for a direct fit it has to come from a '04...

Now for the part that pisses me off, a new one from Ford is over $7000 and a used one at the auto wreckers is $3000 plus....OMG!!!!

I bought a used Ford Ranger about 4 years ago for $2000 bucks. It had just over 100,000km when I got it. Well it was a long commute that year and I rollled 200,000km after owning it a year. I'm over 320,000km now, get the oil changed regularly and keep an eye on the fliuds. To date I've only had to do the front and rear brakes, had a mouse chew through some electrical (The little bugger was still stuck to the wires), ball joints and the clutch slave cylindar. Also had a very small hole in the rear diff that we patched by welding a coat hanger onto. That's lasted 150,000km and cost me a 6pack.

So in total I think I've put out about $3000 plus oil to dive it over 200,000 Km, live in the counrty and put it through a lot of crap. The body aint perfect anymore, but I'm going to drive it till it dies.
