I'm pretty lucky, dayshift today and nights tomorrow. So I get to be home for the kids Christmas morning? Anyone else have to work? It doesn't bother me much, I knew when I signed up that it's a 24/7 operation so sometimes I miss holidays and birthdays. This year I get stuck with Christmas and New Years. Could be worse though, have a friend that works at GM who is getting more time off than he would like. It doesn't bother the wife either, but the mother in law gets a bit ticked that plans don't always go her way.
The only thing that bugs me is that every something big always seems to happen. Last year an 8 yr old drowned during my shift. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everyone has a safe one this year.

Sorry to hear that verno, but if your mother in law is anything like mine she'd find SOMETHING to be ticked about either way! lol!

Dies out shortly after midnight, but lots of ladies to chat with. Not to mention time and a half and lieu day.

I'm working a 48 hour shift on the ambulance starting Christmas morning...but I'm going in tonight 12 hours early so a colleague can spend Christmas morning with his kids.
Usually Christmas is a quiet day...
Merry Christmas.

Last of 12 shifts for tomorrow. They were day shifts mostly, and not too much O/T. Today is the first day I've felt tired. Got a week off at least, so that'll be nice.

I work as a Paramedic as well, and our shifts are 12 hrs. I worked, or will be working, the the 22nd days, 23rd nights, 24th nights, 26th days, 28th days. 29th days, 30th days. So at least I had the 25th during the day to spend with the kids, and I took the 31st and 1st off...can't wait.
It would be nice to have a 9-5 job during the holidays, but during hunting season its so nice to go out during the week when everyone else is working, and not have to fight for a spot to hunt. And at times likes these, I am just very thankful to have a job...especially one thats relatively secure.
Happy Holidays everyone.

While it sucks to work shift work around holiday's, birthdays, etc., I could'nt do the level of field work that I want with my dogs if I were a 9-5'er.
I'm on the other side of the fence in regards to working. I'm been off from December 20 until January 19th. Work for a parts supplier to Chrysler, so their down, I'm down. Got to eat up part of my holidays or no pay. Some solace being the snow is pretty much gone around the house now so can do some dog work. Not sure being off that much is as bad as working too much.
