Should old dogs and training partners simply be forgot,
Just because they are no longer coming to the line?
Should great dogs, even “flavours of the month” never be sought,
Only mentioned on Internet forums re: problems from this or that bloodline?

CHORUS:
To see them pin marks or run blinds so true,
Just to watch them on line,
Taking home honours, even ribbons of blue
Oh to see them once more on the line

And surely you’ll buy your next new pup,
With great hopes when it comes to the line!
So let’s raise a glass or take kindness in a cup,
To maybe one day see it’s name in Retrievers Online.

We may speak of the great ones like Lean Mac or Lottie, even Honcho
Discussing their deeds, what’s become of their bloodline;
So their wins and fame, their very good name, are bantered about to and fro
At least until the next great one comes up to the line.

May each and every dog run its trial or test,
And pick up every bird just fine;
But even if one dog has proven to be the best
They’re all equal coming to the line.

Now here’s a hand out to take the bird from your trusty old friend
Who handles well, stops on the first whistle, takes a perfect straight line!
So no matter the cost, however much money or time you may have to spend,
Here’s hoping your dog steps on each mark, and lines every blind.

So here’s wishing you get to experience the thrill of taking a dog to the line
Hoping you all the best of a Happy New Year – that’s it, now “Auld Lang Syne”.
