I was not around for the fall turkey hunt. Just wondering how it went for people. I am not hearing much about it. Did any one use their dog? I have had my Brit on two occasions point a Turkey holding tight in the grass so I was wondering about the viability of hunting in this way. Generally my experience with Turkey is they see or hear you coming long before you get there, and so while not unheard of, hunting in this way with a dog at first glance does not seem like the most productive way of doing things.

I've not used a dog but lots of folk do.

In the fall they group up. The dog finds the flock, busts them up and you set up and call.

I have walked up on a flock of 30-40 birds going to my deer stand, you should have seen the confusion and outstretched necks before they started dispersing.

Here are some pictures from visitors at my old house. The last picture took some stealth to accomplish

I didn't watch the video before I posted but heard and read about using dogs a while ago. That dog in the clip looks a lot like an EP. I guess you could use any flushing dog or an unsteady pointer as well.

Yeh, your right . I thought that was funny. He looked like a field trial English Pointer reject but now he's special - an Arkansas Turkey Dog! Good for him. LOL

A pointing dog and a turkey... I think that would be something to behold what a flush that would be!

Well it was interesting, exciting. I was hunting pheasant at Fingal and my pointer freezes up. Fortunately I did not shoot at what I thought was the biggest pheasant we had ever flushed, just about 15 feet away. That was turkey number one we flushed and then another time as well but I knew ahead of time it was a turkey. So turkey's don't always run away.
