Not sure if this has been brought up (couldn't find anything doing "Search") -- but I thought this was "different" to say the least -- I mean aren't there enough Labs out there -- there are lots of litters being born -- and some folks think that you have to pay a lot for a well bred FT or HT Lab?!?!? -- I remember when AI was only dreamed of (boy does that show my age or what LOL LOL) in dog circles now cloning?!?!? -- here's a couple of links:

Saw that on the telly. really was not a Lean Mac type of dog. My first thought was I hope they did a DNA match on the pup as it was done in Korea and as you say there are a million lab puppies out there and they all look pretty similar when they are babies.$150,000 will buy a lot of labs like that one.

The Quarter Horse world is getting big in cloning. Personally I think it is a bit silly. Still interesting though.

maybe cloning will answer some the questions about nature over nurture. If this dog is the exact replica will its nature be the exact same as the DNA donner or will changes in the environment make it a totally different dog.

Lenore,
I agree it is interesting but I'm not sure it really is for the best -- your new pup Woody is proof I'm sure that there are still better alternatives to cloning!!!! I'm sure Woody never cost near as much as the $150000+ that the cloned pup did (even with your trip to Bass Pro LOL LOL) and yet I'm pretty sure he is as valuable to you or more so than any clone could be!!!! With so many good Labs out there (and I'm certainly not suggesting that the "original" Lab that was cloned wasn't a good Lab) and so many good breedings, I just had to shake my head when I heard this whole cloning story.

Ducksoup: After reading about the results these people wanted and how the animal didn't meet their expectations, I only felt bad for the animal. In my opinion these people need to let go of their cloned animals past greatness, most people do not get a "great" animal all the time most people do not even get one, they should consider themsleves lucky. LOL I have a MUCH better idea as what to do with $150k, and it has to do with and island, drinks with umbrellas and running my dogs in HT/FT. Yes, I agree I would like to think that the cloned lab was an exceptional animal, I just hope they haven't put this dog on a pedastal.
Anna: If I remember correctly sometimes the clone doesn't even look like the original or have the same temperment. I know that with racing Quarter Horses they are trying for faster and some times they were successful but more often than not they were fast at all. I think that it will be very hard to replica the same environment.

Couldn't agree with you more; hope those Florida folks haven't put their cloned Lab up too high but afraid they're not likey too realistic -- and I have a few ideas of my own what to do with $150k -- sure as hell could do a lot of fly fishing for that much money (damn, I really must have "cabin fever", talking about fly fishing on a dog forum LOL LOL)
