I'm stuck at work and I just got a msg to call my wife. She's up at her families place in Byng Inlet. She was in tears, saying she got up to let her dad's dogs out at 3 am and couldnt find our pup. She looked all night and finally found him this morning at around 815. Someone (nobody will own up to it) let him out last night and when he couldnt get back in he wandered off. They found under a woodpile at the Sawmill lodge about a KM away. People at the lodge said he wouldnt come near them even when they offered him treats. But when the wife got out of the van this morning he came running over. According to the boss lady his body was still warm and he wasnt shivering too badly, and he seems no worse for wear playing with the other two dogs when he got home. I'm guessing he started wandering and couldnt find his way home in the dark.
The good thing in the whole deal is I had ZERO trouble convincing her I need to put an order in with Valley dogs for tags (and a few other things since I'm ordering anyways :emmbarassed: )

I was really worried this may turn him into a boot polisher for a while, but after the wife got him home, we took him out the following day and he ranged out in the bush at his normal distance. I don't think he's going back up there unless I'm there with him.
On a side note, my brother in law loves to take shots and me and dog training. So he says "What kind of hunting dog are you training that can't use his nose to find his way home". I replied "Yeah I guess you're right, hey maybe you can help me. I have only worked with him on sniffing out birds, can you come out next weekend and hide in the bush? Maybe if I work him on sniffing out A$$HOLES for a weekend, he'd find your place a lot easier next time"
