Hey all,
I figured I would ask this question here as who know's we might have an electrition or someone in the construction on the board.
Anyways I am currently in the middle of finishing my basement ( spent all week studding it) and am currently doing the wiring. Anyways I was wondering if there is a law or something stating that I must have a liecenced electrition hook up the wiring or can I just do it myself?
Once I get the wiring done I get to move onto plumbing for my bar in the rec room :darkbeer:  :bigrin

I think it has something to do with your house insurance not being valid unless a licensed person signs off the work.

I think (I'm not sure) that you can do the lions share of the work, but can't hook it up to the electrical panel. When you are done you have to get an inspector in before you hook it up. Like Case said, has to do with insurance.

You could tie it in yourself but unless youve done some wiring before I would have a licenced guy have a look at what you have done.I'm guessing this basement is being done w/o all the permits:emmbarassed: I'm not judging it is done all the time W/O.
Just make sure you have no more than 12 outlets per circuits ,that includes lights. You should have 3-way switches on the stairs. I could go on but it might make your head spin.
Good Luck Tim:bigrin
I'm a licensed construction and maintenance Electrician.
As long as you pull a permit from Hydro and it passes inspection you are a o.k. Only the home owner or an electrician can do this. If your house burns down due too faulty wiring the insurance company will be looking for fault !!!
If you hire an electrician and DON"T pay under the table,,, ALL legit with a permit and Hydro passes it , You can't go wrong. P.M. me if you have any questions.

Hey Mike , arn't reno's the best :censored: :censored: :omg:
My basement was completely unfinished, it was partially finished but I had to get rid of it all due to mold and a failing foundationa and when I went to Tarion looking for compensation ( house is only 3 years old ) I got hung out to dry.
Here is a couple of pics my wife took earlier in the week. When I started there was nothing but bare concret walls. I am now just waiting on my buddy ( who is a liecenced electrition ) to hook everything up at the fuse panel ( I did the rest )

I don't see any empty beer cases laying around, if the renovation job is as big as you say there should be a stack of them somehwere. Either that or your not doing it right.
It has other advantages as well, if you have LOTS of beer around it is easy to lure friends over to help out.
:nice work:

A case of beer makes the work go easier -- two or three cases may mean not much getting done at all (depending on how many "workers" involved) -- but Drew it looks like you're doing OK with basement reno -- I'm having to do same (even worse is having furnace put in as well) -- oh the joys of home ownership
