If you were going to run in HRC you need to register your dog with UKC and you need to join the HRC. Some of the other members on here would have better info for you about how to go about getting the paper work in order.

If you are going to run a CKC hunt or WC test you need to send in an entry ahead of time, and your dog needs to be CKC registered or registerable. Premium lists for the tests are often posted on the websites of the clubs or on the National Retriever Club of Canada website. The email addresses for test secretaries are also listed in the CKC Official Section events listing, and many can email you a copy. There is an official CKC entry form with the premium lists and you need to send or deliver it to the test secretary, ensuring it reaches them before the official closing.

Just to add to Tim's post - you can actually run UKC/HRC Hunt Tests without registering your dog or being a member of the HRC. There is usually an extra charge for this ($10-$15). If you decide you like these Hunt Tests, and would like to run more, it is advisable to register (or you will pay lots of extra fees) but if you want to run a couple to see how you do and if you like it, there is no problem - just extra fees!

As far as entering an UKC/HRC Hunt Test, they will take entries up to and including the day of the test. This is a bit different than CKC (all - Working Certificate tests, Field Trials, and Hunt Tests) where there is a cutoff date about a week or 10 days before the test.

One note about the UKC/HRC tests - they are limited entry - meaning they will only take a maximum number of dogs. So once they are filled, that is it - see you next year. It is always advisable to contact the Hunt Secretary and see if they are full before sending your entry in - especially if it is getting close to the date of the test. To be sure to get in, you should really send your entry in as early as possible to ensure a place.

This is also true if you want to see you and your dog's name in the programme. This is usually printed 7 to 10 days before the test. If you enter last minute, your name will note appear. Not a big deal to some, but it is to others.

Awesome thanks for the info!! Do points carry over to the next year? And which one has more credibility.....UKC/HRC or CKC?

I'll bite and say CKC. Since this is Canada, some people(not all) would like to see a CKC title on a dog. Ok hit me with your best shot.:fencing:

I guess I have to say CKC titles have a little more weight for breeding here in Canada as the UKC is unrecognized by both the CKC and the AKC. Goes back to the histoty of the organizations.
Having said that we also say a title and a buck fifty will get you a cup of coffee as well.
