You can earn the titles by running your dog in 3 CKC sactioned Junior hunt tests and passing and then running 4 SR for your title and then 5 for your master and then 10 for your Grand master hunter. These tests your judged against a standard.

For feild trials you compete against the other dogs running in your level. Junior is for dogs up to 2 years old and then Qual and then there is amature and open all age. Best dog wins, there are placings 1,2,3,4, Cms
in field trials you have to earn points to get your title and you must have a win in the class you are running. Very difficult!!

come on out and watch a trial or hunt test to see where you have to be with your training to be able to run.

If you train to win the National, the worst that will happen is you will spend alot of time & $$$ and have a better hunting dog than you have dreamed of.
That alone makes it worthwhile.

Picnic Trials are run in the off season to keep dogs in shape (those who don't go south). There are no title points awarded at a picnic trial but most clubs that hold them do give out a ribbon for placing. They are judged by club members or people from other clubs. Because they are run in the off season, from late October throughout the winter in areas with little or no snow, they do not in most cases have a water series. They often consist of multiple marks and a blind on land. You choose how you want to run it and if you want to run in contention for a ribbon. They got the name picnic trial because everyone used to pack a lunch.
