We recently went on vacation for just short of two weeks. While we were away my dog stayed with my parents. We came back home to find that two pigeons had decided to start their family on the bottom shelf of our bbq underneath the cover. There is an egg in there right now so I have no idea how long it will be before it will hatch. Soon I hope, I want these things out of here! I haven't been letting Dax out on the patio and everytime he sees one of the birds he rips around the house like a crazy man because he wants to go out there and grab it. I guess maybe it is karma/payback for using their friends and family as training dummies?

LOL! Nice! In all fairness, I'd trap these two, and let Dax have at em.

You only have one.????.. they usually have two.:omg: If you do not have two within 48 hours they will most likely leave and you can start cooking. If they decide that your accomadations are to their likely you have 21 days of incubation, plus another 4-6 weeks before the young are on their own.
Have you every tried squab? Bon appedite

Thanks for the info though! The thought had crossed my mind last night of destroying the nest but I just didn't have the heart to do it. How I can use dead pigeons for training yet can't get rid of a nest still remains a mystery to me! And the thought never occured to me that I now can't use the BBQ! Seeing now how I can't use it for half the summer I might have to change my decision.
And Frank, I'm not sure that would be a smart decision. The one pigeon is huge, we have never seen one that big before. He might be able to take Dax! :boxing:

Big pigeon makes great training bird -- easier to mark -- I vote with destroy nest but catch two pigeons first, use for training
