I am just courious on what I need for supplies for training my GSP and I am also interested in testing my pup down the road and I have no idea where to do this. I am from NB and If it can be helped I don't want to have to drive to ON to do tests and trials. Actually any help with training tips supplies any thing at all would be a great help. I have a freind who has been traing with his GSP for the last year or two and he is going to be helping me but any advise would be great..

Thanks in advance for any help..

Jesse

Congrats on your pup, I might not be of much help in training you dog, but You mihgt want to get a good book or 2. I have How to hep a gun dog train themselves by Joan Bailey, or something about the Delmar Smith method of teaching. The picks are a little old but the concepts are good.
How old is your dog?

You are going to need to start with good obedience work. You'll need a few different leads and maybe a whistle if you choose to use one. Don't worry about bird scents. I don't believe there any good. Depending on how old your pup is and where you live your going to need birds!!!!

Hopefully that helps you a bit.

Keep any of your training very short and fun! If its not fun for you it won't be for your dog!

Congrats on the new pup! I've got a 4.5m old Pudelpointer I've started training. I've been using a George Hickox series and also the "Perfect Start" series from Perfection Kennels. The perfect start is a good easy to follow program , and yes your gonna need birds to train with. Pigeons are fine, having your own homers would be the ulitmate in recycling.
