Well I folded and ordered a set of Mike Lardy's Total Retriever Marking DVD's. I asked my wife to split it with me and it could be my father's day gift. Next month I'll order the Total Retriever Training set for my birthday...everyone starting to see how this works...

Anywhooo, everyone is saying Lardy's tapes are the way to go, so lets give it a shot.

I have both sets. The TR Marking set is ok and I enjoyed the way they set up the marks and watching the dogs run, but the TR Training set is fantastic. I used it to train all my dogs and it was like my bible for dog trainng. The training DVDs are well worth the hefty price tag.

Those of you who haven't yet saved enough for the Lardy tapes, should be aware of the reprints of his Retriever Journal articles. They are available in two volumes each for only 24.95. The first contains clear and comprehensive articles on all the steps in the basics and transition level. The second deals with a variety of more advanced topics as well as problems. I consider these one of the best values in the all retriever material. Our own Retrievers ONLINE also did a series several years back with all the steps. This was compatible with the lardy material. We did this in even more detail - you'd have to back order almost two years -see my website if interested.
As Anne said, get Lardy's TRT DVD first ($270), the Collar Conditioning if doing that and then the Marking tape. All are available through ybsmedia.com

Cheers

Dennis

PS. I have no financial interest in Lardy material-I just think it's the best out there and not becasue I was involved!

Dennis,

You did a really good job on the basics and transition articles you did. Helped fill in a few holes from the Lardy TRT tapes I have. Heard somewhere that there is now a third volume of Lardy articles. Is this true? My next purchase is going to be the Dave Rorem Handling DVDs. Anyone I have talked to say they are fantastic and I need all the help I can get in that area.

Highly recommend the Rick Smith Puppy Development Part 1 and Part 2 DVDs, for all breeds of puppies.

If you have a Retriever the must have DVD for puppies is Jackie Mertens " Sound Beginnings".

I ordered the full set and they arrived 2 days after I had to put my girl down. I have now watched them and the tapes really helped fill in some blanks for me. I would recomend them. I'm now working with my hunting buddy dog polishing her blind retrieves.

And speaking of good value in training material I would highly recommend Dennis's "Retrievers Online" magazine. It's as much information for training retrievers for hunt tests and field trials you can get in an inexpensive publication. No fancy ads or graphics but tons of usable information.
