Hey gang,

Out scouting this morning for a Christmas eve goose shoot and found a killer field with 2-300 geese dropping in and feeding. Went and secured permission and then back to watch the geese for a bit.

While I was watching 4 flocks of 50-60 fat and chubby mallards in each flock came in off the lake and circled the geese in the field but then took off to another field. They would not commit to dropping in with the geese.

So, I am wondering if I added some duck deke's to my spead tonght if it will entice the ducks to committ? Or will it make no difference and might flare the geese...

Loading up now....

That's what they were looking for!!!
I you can put them with your geese you should have ducks down before the geese even come!

Well just got back, seen 200+ ducks and lost count of the geese we seen (12-15 large flocks). Unfortunately the ducks wanted nothing to do with us and would not come within 300 yards. The geese were VERY VERY interested but would not commit to the spread. Each flock would circle, we would call them back and they would circle again but never come in close enough for shooting.

Still an enjoyable night out with a couple of friends and Turbo. At one point there was 7-8 flocks circling us, it was a very cool sight. I did not unpack the truck as I am going to go out Boxing day morning and try again...

Open up the landing zone for the ducks and use and spinner or two two is better at different heights alo try flagging for the geese if you are using a layout make sure that the flag is beside a decoy . Good luck
