Ok.... so I have a remington 870 express. I may be coming into a little money later on in the summer and I am thinking of purchasing a newer firearm as I got mine used to begin with. I am looking for suggestions. I use it only for birds... upland, waterfowl and turkey (though I suppose you could classify a turkey as upland could you not??). So far I have looked at a number of options. There is a new Max Gobbler one from Remington that looks great. I have also looked at the benelli supernova (camo and chambered for 3.5"). I guess if I am going to buy a new one I would like camo and a firearm chambered for all shell sizes as my express is good for only 2.75" and 3". In a pinch it would be nice to be able to shoot 3.5 if I am out of ammo and for some reason cannot source 3" or 2.75" shells. What do you use and why???

I use two different shotguns for most of my "bird" hunting. The 870 if I am sitting in a blind and my 20G O/U if I am walking. Different styles of hunting, different guns. I have carried my 870 around all day for upland, but it gets a lot heavier at the end of the day than my 20G.
Browning BPS. The Browning guns come to shoulder the quickest, aligned right on, and "fit" the best for me. Like the top mount safety and bottom ejection too. Try them all on and see what fits you best.

I have a Remi 870 SuperMag Express...love it, I'll always have it. But I just recently picked up a Baikal O/U 12 gauge. I've always wanted an O/U and figured for the price of the Baikal, give it a try and then move on to a higher quality O/U with experience.

I have been doing a lot of research on different shot guns and price is a big factor. I am looking at the Benelli Super Black Eagle II if price is not a factor the Benelli is like no other shot gun.. I have spoke to different people on this but they are very expensive, I am fortunate that I am able to use a commision cheque to buy mine.. I think your best bet is research different shot guns and try to talk to people that own what you are looking at.

Jesse I have used a Benelli Super Nova and a Benelli autoloader model.. not sure what the model was on that one. They are both fantastic guns. I personally did not prefer the autoloader even though it was a a great firearm. I think part of it, was that it was right handed and I am a left handed shooter. Shell casing blowing past my face on their own freaked me out. Even with a right handed pump I still control when the casing comes out. I was actually thinking about getting a Super Nova but in camo.

Hubby has a Baretta Sport autoloader. I love it. Since we both shoot left handed it is great. Comes with the shims to make it into a left or right handed gun. Got it done when he bought it. Could never afford a true left handed gun. Didn't realise the difference until we got this one. Whenever we are out together I take the Baretta and he uses the o/u.

I also shoot left handed as well and that is the great thing about the benelli you can get it in left or right handed. I ordered my Super Black Eagle yesterday in left handed at no extra cost.. I expected it was going to cost more but when they told me there was no cost difference I jumped at it.. I have never shot the auto loader before but when I picked it up it was so lite and I just felt that I couldn't miss. I am heading down the end of this month to pick it up I can't wait.
I think there is a remington model that you can get in left handed as well or they have the new model that ejects the shells from the bottom.

I just recently purchased the Max Gobbler....Its the ugliest thing I ever did see, but because you can adjust the stock, it fits me perfectly. I am gonna call it the ugly stick. Last year I purchased the Remington 1187 supermag and the gun fit me perfectly. I got it at the end of the turkey season, with the intention of shooting it during the summer. Well, I got tied up with this new hobby of mine....DOGS and never did get out. We had a turkey hunt planned for Florida this March, so I took it with me. Still hadn't shot it. Its brand new....what could go wrong with it eh? Well, first bird that come across, the gun shot low and the other two shells jammed. We took it out and it kept doing the same thing. I was using 3 1/2 " shells. That thing exploded every time I shot, no matter what size shell I used. So basically I had a semi automatic single shot shotgun. I brought it back and tried on some different ones. This one fit the best. Although it comes with the true glow sites on it....which I don't like. I would rather have a single bead. Anyhow....I am looking forward to getting my Ugly Stick.... but I will have it out at the shooting range this time before the birds come around again.
good luck with your choice.
Debbie.

Well I ended up canceling my order on the Bennelli and I just picked up a Remington Europa o/u. I love this shot gun, it will be great for upland hunting. I guess if you have not purchased one yet I would see if you can try a lot of different ones out to see how they feel and how you feel holding it. I was at a shooting range when the owner said he had a bunch of different shotguns for sale so my buddy and I went up on Sunday for a shoot and he had a bunch there I shot the ones that I liked and after about 15 rounds I knew it was going to be the Europa, I felt like I couldn't miss. Also the Europa came with a full set of Briley chokes and they run about $40 a piece.. Good luck with the gun search and if any one ever makes it to New Brunswick check out these guys they have a great set up...
