I am looking at either a pointer or setter. The pointer lines are mostly Miller from one breeder, and another one is HTA/Crow's Little Joe on top and Callico/Miller on the bottom.
If you are looking for a lot of run thats miller line crows little joe super
shoot to retrieve dog callico gun dog

The breeder with the Miller lines has setters that run big as well. Pups were running 500-600 yards consistently at 4-5 months old.
Are you looking for trial dog or hunting? Itrial but hunt hard wild birds alberta montana arizona use
collar all the time.

That is about an hour from me.
I am looking at a dog for hunting, no trialing here unfortunately, lots of room to run dogs. If I move back to Ontario I may, participated in one trial with my male Bourbonnais.
This is the stud for the possible HTA/CLJxMiller/Calico

If you are looking for a closer working EP see if you can find a breeder who is using Elhew Pointers to hunt Grouse. Elhews are renouned for being dogs that hunt with you and not run offs or dogs that start hunting for themselves. When Wehle was developing the line he wanted a good hunting dog 1st that could compete in trials yet be a good family dog. This is what he got.
I was looking at buying a pointer about a year ago and was looking at the Elhew x Gaurdrail cross. This cross seems to produce good hunting dogs that can trial, have good noses and are very biddable.

Hi Sharon,
Grouse Feather Mark must be an exceptional field trial shooting dog winner. Has he produced any winning pups yet?
Are you thinking of getting one of them?

I'm not sure about how well his pups have done. Good question. I'm going to find out.
I'd love a pup. However, I have 3 dogs and my husband is not a dog lover so..........:blah:

Thanks. Not interested in GSPs
I have done a lot of searching and many phone calls, both cover dog breeders and AA/SD breeders. Pretty much know where I am getting a dog, not sure whether a pointer or setter.:decision: This guy may be available, breeder says he is ugly. That may be because the dog isn't white. He is 3/4 Miller and 1/4 Fiddler so he should be pretty white but is heavy ticked.

This little girl was supposed to come to my place last summer but it didn't work out. That may change though.:biggrin1:

Her littermates, in ID, UT and ND, are running from 600-900 yards and finding wild birds.
Half sister from last years litter in ID. High on both ends.

Littermate in UT, she is a powerful dog, big strong back end. Daddy is a son of Stone Tavern Matrix.

Now I'm confused. The pic is a GSP unless I lost my mind. Am I reading something wrong? Sure looks like a GSP to me.

So, I am confused as well but on another issue. If you are not field trialiing in All Age trials and you probably don't hunt from a horse or have a scout to help you round up the dog, why would you want a dog that runs that big?

Maybe that is why it looks so ugly, GSP in the wood pile. Ha Ha, but it sure looks ugly in that picture anyway. I had a Fiddler/Wahoo Trouble Doc female at one time, very good dog and won the CKC Prairie Provences Pheasant Shooting Dog Championship with her but she was marked a lot different then this pup.

The sire and dam to that pup both come from Kraftman's Ko Kane - - CH Miller's White Powder x Wiggins Miss Sammie
(littermate/full sister to National Champion Miller's On Line,
Ch. Wiggins River Knot,
and multiple time Ch. Miller’s Southern Pride.)
Sire is Miller top and bottom and dam is Miller x Fiddler, maybe the tight breeding is what is causing the colouration? Who knows?
Maybe that is why it looks so ugly,
The breeder said the same thing. Pretty is as pretty does. I have seen some ugly dogs but if they get it done...
That pup is 40 lbs at 5 months and the breeder figures he will be 60lbs easy, AA running dog type.

A big area to hunt and a dog that covers the ground is certainly helpful. My BIL's male setter ranges to 800+ yards, no horse or scout needed with him, holds point until you arrive.
I didn't get the setter last summer as I had a litter on the ground then bought and renovated a house, wifey would not have pleased if I brought a dog home.
I am not totally sure on a setter, looked at pointers before being interested in setters, as I have questions about some issues with them that I have seen myself and heard from others.
GSP in the wood pile.
How about pointer in their woodpile?

Sure does answer the question. What kind of birds are you hunting there? Hope you get a big running dog that likes to handle.
