Do you think the NOSDC gets over shadowed by Ames?
Sharon
01-31-2010, 05:55 PM
Not for the setter people.:) The NSDOC is what some wait for all year.
Does that mean you you doun't want them don't running with pointers?
Kootenay Jim

Of the 40 dogs qualified to date to run in the National, only 3 are setters. Does that mean that pointers are better for the All Age trials? Better heat tolerance, endurance and just a tougher dog?
A lot more setters qualified for the NOSDC. Weather looks pretty bad in North Carolina, getting snow.

The number of dogs qualified for the NOSDC tops 100
It stands to reason more setters would be in there
It only takes one dog to win

Since 1961, only 5 setters have won the NOSDC, the last one to win was in 2005. Maybe this year another ES will win.

Hi Sharon,
The NOSDC web site is not kept up very well, was it better last year? They don't even have the drawing listed yet.
Sharon
02-02-2010, 02:13 PM
Never been well kept up , but just volunteers giving it the time they've got I guess.
Pouring rain down there to-day. More bad weather predicted.
The time/day of your brace is going to decide the winner.
Tuesday's results:

thanks for the link Sharon. One of the four setters down for the count so far.
Not very good conditions for bird fiinding. Luck of the draw as you say.

PS My money's on Strut and Tommy Davis.

Well, 2 more setters ran, and both are out, just maybe Stone Tavern Matrix or Sukara's Grace still have a chance.
the NOSDC website hasn't been updated at all.
Sharon has picked Strutt to win the National, anybody else have a favorite? I'll pick Lester's Snowatch. Drawing is this Saturday

Happy Jack or Online would be nice to see.
I've heard from a very reliable source (no it wasn't Penny, I did say a reliable source) that Happy Jack is a better trial dog than Snowatch, but I'm going with Snowatch because he has more trial experiance
Found the link to the Nation Drawing from Cover Dog website http://www.amesplantation.org/field-trial/2010%20national/synopsis.asp
My choise is in the 1st brace, guess I won't have to wait very long to see how he does

Who is your source, Kootenay Shawn?I haven't been around pointers long enough to have a quality opinion.Although that doesn't stop some people.(Not directed at you)I'm just saying a blind man would pick snowatch.Last years winner and kicking butt all year long.

Easy now there Penny. So, do you have a 1st place pick as well? Hope they all get a good run at it rather than a luck of the draw situation.

I'll second Happy Jack.

Luck of the draw didn't favor Snowatch.I'm sure you would rather ride a few before running. On the other hand this is not his first trial and with a good scout he will do fine

Well there is no doubt that Happy Jack is a better dog than snow watch as well as haveing a hot streak now but to pick the winner is anyones guess. It would be easier to weed out the loosers.........puphood1

Me and Cody are betting on who's dog pick will go further at Ames this year
Do you want to get in on the bet?

have trouble keeping up at times!!

Its tough to be out of the running that early, kind of like riding a quarter horse when everyone else is mounted on walkers. In the Shadow sure put on a performance today, maybe Miss Penny would like to change, since her dog hasn't run yet, you know 20/20. I thought White Powder Pete was doing well with 7 finds, sure doesn't have a good 12 o'clock tail though from looking at the action pictures. http://amesplantation.zenfolio.com/f976341536
Penny
02-12-2010, 10:49 AM
I like your analogy.White power Pete and In the Shadow did put on quite a show.Conditions must be improving. It's kind of funny how everone knows Snowatch.Maybe Gary Lester was able to put his dog in more stakes than the others and as a result he won more ribbons and awards.Could be that Snowatch had a brutal draw and if switched he would have 10 finds.I guess we will never know.
Go TWIST go may the bird dog gods be with you!!

It will be ride for a hour maybe hour and 1/2 and pickup unless the dog has 3-4 finds/hour so it will make for some boring riding at the national. Hopefully there will be some dogs that can make it interesting.............puphood1

My favorite for what ever reason is Happy Jack.
There are way to many very good dogs still left including two N.Champions and because of the weather unfortunately it is the luck of the draw and if the birds will come out to play that will have the biggest influence. Don't count out Game Maker, Ameritage ,Bar shoe buisy, Memphis May, Chederoak, Distant Shadow and Jack Huffman has 2 dogs left. Remember it is a bird count now and race has become secondary. So unfortunately the speedsters will cut their own throats quickly.........puphood1
Dave you better get out with your dogs you sound bored are you going to Great FALLS?

We just got 2 in. of snow last night on top of ice and crusted snow which all makes for interesting riding. Greatfalls is supposed to have much the same so I will sit this one out....puphood1

Well now, only one dog left to run. Penny's choice (not very suprising for all of the jabbering coming from her), didn't do any better than most of the others.
Tomorrow by noon we will probably know who won. In the Shadow, Cedar Oak Bee Sting, Gamemaker or White Powder Pete unless Barshoe Busy hits a good lick.
Wait a minute, isn't there an ES that I'm missing?
JAMES ! James! james ! be nice to her for she knows not where she comes from?
