since i usually don't have anyone to throw bumpers for me, what are some other alternatives?

I was even thinking of using my clay pigeon thrower (on a really long rope) to throw the bumper.

on this site go to retriever talk . and chech out training retrievers alone by retrievers online by dennis voit this will be the best investment you will ever make . there are dvds and a book . one series everyone should own .and training alone is a good thing .

I usually walk out throw the bumper return, now working on doubles doing the same. I found it works well for teaching the dog to remain steady. With out the launchers or some one else not sure what other altenative there is.

I'm also contemplating the above mentioned DVD I've heard it should be well worth it.

Find some new friends with wingers :)

no matter how you cut it you will need some type of thrower .You need a training group or some type of winger.IMHO you need these thing ASAP because you need to teach the dog the way you will be testing or even hunting. Walking out to throw has its place and so does hand throwen bumper but very soon the dog will have to learn and be exposed to throwers or wingers...

Where you are located there are enough retriever people that it should not be to hard to find someone to train with close by. I will search for some numbers and names. But with Lake Ontario HRC , Pine Ridge retriever club , York retirever club all very close to you it should be easy. Try to contact John, Not sure who is still in Ontario from Pine ridge, Ann frequents this board she will know and Dennis from York they will be able to put you in touch with people with varying schedules
