Anyone know where I can purchase a starter pistol in the London area?
Thanks

Goble's carries .22 starter pistols. I'm not sure about .32's.

Thanks. I forgot about the pigeons you had. Do you still have them?

You're welcome to 5. Used a couple to-day from that batch. Didn't expect much as they are young, but they flew great!
I'm only working mornings through the summer Chris, so anytime you'd like to do some training I'd be glad to let you use my pistol . Lady could use someone to back too.

Thanks for the offer. I think I need to get Sheena to stop LOL before lady can back her.....
If you have room in your coop. I have pigeons already some hommers that fly pretty good.
If not I can come by and pick them up.

I had trouble finding one I liked in London. I ended up getting the Traditions .209 pistol in Toronto when I was coming home from some holidays last year.

I just bought a blank .32 Remington Arms pistol at an auction. I paid $200. but they are normally closer to $400.:bigrin

why not just use your shotgun??? I have not used a starter yet. Shotgun works fine. cheap range shells work fine. I guess my mentality spend the money on something that you might not have... such as a bird launcher or e-collar or something. You have a shotgun... why get a starter pistol. I understand that shells are more expensive that primers, but I guess my thought is that if you use your shotgun while training you are only going be fire probably five or six shot in a day anyway.

If you want to do any trials or test, then a blank pistol is a requirement. It is also easy and conveniant. Pack your dog, whistle, water, birds, bird launcher, ecollar, crate, training vest, bell, other dog ... and it is just easier to pack a small pistol rather than a shotgun... IMHO.:icon1_lol:

I don't want to take any chances on having a gun-shy dog, that's why I start with a .22 blank gun. Using my 20 gauge initially would be a big risk. In Championship trials you must use a .32 blank gun.

There you go. This is exactly the value of this messageboard. I have again learned something new. Man would I have looked foolish showing up at a trial if I did not know that. Thanks Jixer. I didn't know that trial and tests required a starter pistol. I guess I might have to get one at some point then. In the mean time.... shot gun for me it is. I guess I should also get out to a trial just to see what I need to be able to accomplish with my dog when he is ready for that. I understand the risk that you are speaking of case. My dog was exposed to a gun at about 4 months old.. as well as lots of loud noise. Didn't seem to phase him and I think I got lucky.... not a gun shy dog to begin with.

If you are buying a starter pistol I would recommend you pay the extra and buy an ALPHA. We have returned 4 of the ones that Bass Pro sells because the transfer plate at the hammer breaks. The Olympia just don't stand up to the wear and tear either. We put alot of primers through ours.
