Has anyone noticed how really screwed up the CKC appears to be getting in regards to field dogs? As an active hunt tester I'm trying to put together my schedule for the summer and have noticed a bunch of stuff while trying to "decipher" their web page. Why are there several hunt tests/working certificates scheduled for Thursday's and Friday's? Sorry gotta work. Why is the Chesapeake Bay Club test July 14/15 scheduled for two different places 45 minuts apart? Which one is right? They resubmitted the EOLBA test in Brighton when it is cancelled for this year due to Master National. Get the distinct feeling the field dogs are just a money grab for them. Maybe if we incorporate weeve poles into our blind work? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. HRC is quick, easy, and accurate. Really want to support the various local training groups that put so much well appreciated time and effort into these, but it seems to get harder and hard each year with the CKC.

You should try being a HT chair or secratary and deal with them!Or even better import a dog from the states with microchip they don't recognize.
You best bet is to contact the HT sec. from the intended club to get your info.My club's test is June 23 &24 down at Baypoint Kennels near LongPoint,Horseshoe Hunting Ret. Club, contact myself for info.

As a person that has run in both programs (CKC and UKC/HRC) I can say there are some definite positives and negatives for both. I really don't want to get into all of them here BUT I am a hunter and have found the UKC/HRC program fits my needs the best.

I will say that I started earning ribbons with the CKC Working Certificate program at the Mountain Valley Retriever Training Club (MVRTC) which holds these events on Thursday evenings. They are very limited entry (15 dogs) and it is really meant to be a very enjoyable evening with a BBQ and socializing. We eventually managed to earn our WCX title. I have to say it was one of my favorite events to run in!

I think your gripe is really with the CKC on-line "events" system. As Tim suggested, it is really best to contact the club and get more detailed information. I also think Forums like this are also VERY useful!!

Indeed my primary gripe is with the web page. If the CKC is going to post the information a little more effort needs to be put into it to insure it is up to date and accurate. After spending an hour or so Sat. trying to plan my CKC season I was no further ahead than when I started. Tim was/is right. I'm going to go through again and phone all the events I want to enter and make sure I have the proper dates before sending my entry forms. But that sort of defeats the purpose of the web page in my opinion. Maybe they should just put a list of previous years hunt tests and a contact instead. The amount of field dog coverage in their magazine is pretty lacking too, but that is to be expected in some regards.
On the other hand the HRC page has yet to let me down in regards to their posted information. Everything is correct. The only issue I have had with them was cancelled events due to judge or lack of participants. I'm sure the information for your upcoming event is correct. Bet Kingston's and Lake Ontario is right on too. Just makes everything easier. Will have yours, Kingston's and LOHRC entries in the mail this week. Will call CKC events after I've done them up. Will see.......
