Any other hunt tests happening before the fall in the London area. I want to come and check them. I want to see what my dogs needs to do for FDJ title. I have heard and have seen a score sheet but I want to actually see it for myself

The Canadian German Shorthaired Pointer National Club has one every fall - spring? at Puslinch area ( Vandemeer's) too. Just google GSPCC

Canadian GSP club doesn't have their fall test posted yet on their website or on the CKC calendar of events but I am pretty sure that it will be about the same time as the other two. They do put on one of the best tests IMHO !!!! Very organized and helpful.:first:
No better way to learn about it, than to get out and do it. JR test isn't that expensive. I'd recomend that you go and try it. You can even borrow my training pistol.

Traditionally the GSP club only does one test a year in the spring at Vandameers unless they have changed this year.
They do run a nice test though.

For an FDJ title, your dog will need to have a pulse  , not be gunshy, and at least flash point. Unless things have changed since I last ran a dog. Some would say FDJ's kind of a moneymaker for the CKC rather than a meaningful title, but it is a good introduction to the testing program if you've never been involved.

Not only does he need a pulse but he should know what a bird is . He has to show some independance and you have to have some control. Like come when called. I have seen more dogs fail because their owners have thought it is nothing more then a walk in the park:sad1:

They're doing well. I finished Bayliegh's F.D. this spring.
How's your Rebel?
I think that I convinced Leo and Buster to come for a restricted breed stake at our Fall trial at Hullet. Are you interested in bringing Rebel? It will likely be the Sat. of the Labour Day weekend. I'll make sure you get a premium list if you are interested.

Do you have an update on the dates that you could send me Jim? I thought I had the updated list but there's nothing on my sheet for Labour Day. A Brittany Restricted Stake sounds great! (Any pointing breed can participate but only those registered with The FDSB can place .) Placing isn't all that important for some people so just enjoying the trial would make a fun day for most. Good idea!

I have the same list as you Case. Mine shows Woodstock Pointng Dog Club at Hullet for September 1. Does yours show different?
Our restricted stake is not for Brittanys only. Is is for pointing breeds other than English Pointers and English Setters. So far, It looks like Gordon Setters and Brittanys.

That's a really good idea!
I guess my list must be the same, but just didn't have anything for Sept.1 . I thought I had lots of training time left but I guess i'd better get a little more serious. Coyotes have taken over some of my best training grounds. Pretty sure I'm not going to use my young settter Lady this fall in trials. I'm really happy with her but don't want to take a chance on a bad experience with pheasant. She hasn't had any experience with pheasants - just pigeon and quail. One loud kcoc bird with spurs in her face could do a lot of damage. I'll put on my jugging shoes anduse her mother, Tessa. If I can keep her on the course, she'll do well. She always pushes the margins which the judges like to see.:bigrin

You'll just have to teach her to only point hens!
Don't know what to tell you for the dates.
My list shows the trials starting Aug 18 for Gordon Setter, Aug 25 for London, Sept 1 for Woodstock and Sept 8 for Toronto. Did I mark them down wrong?

Just curious, I ran may last dog, a Britt in a few walking trials just for fun and they were in the spring when it's cooler. How do the dogs hold up in the heat running in Aug and Early Sept? I would think the dark dogs like the Gordon's would be worse off. Can you train/condition for potential high heat and humidity along with heavy cover? Or is it a case of everybody's at the same disadvantage? I would think it would be hard for a dog to put in a showing up to it's potential under the heat stress that may occur? I've never understood why more of the tests and trials aren't planned for times of the year with better running conditions, other than conflicting with hunting seasons.

The season is very short now. We only have Sept. to maybe November and a month in the spring due to the breeding season.Championships also have to be worked into those week-ends. The 6-7 day Canadian and Ontario Championships happen in the fall.
We are starting in middle August to try and lengthen the season. Where we run there is lots of water . Pointers generally speaking do well in the heat and heavy cover. Setters traditionally are not able to work well in the heat.
It is the handler's responsibility to keep a close eye on his/her dog and pick him up if he looks heat stressed.
It would be nice to see you on Sept 1 . There is a restricted stake for Brittany's and Gordon Setters being held.

Now you have me really confused. Is Bob holding a restricted stake too?

Hi Jixer. Make sure you send me a premium list. If I'm not running Buster in the States I would like to come out and run with big guys. Always ready to learn.

I still have your email. I will make sure it gets to you and Don. :nice work:
Now if we could just convince Maverick to bring a Brittany or two instead of going stateside....

To late Jixer, Maverick leaves in another two weeks and Dixie may go a few weeks after him. Mav had a good spring over there and I hope he keeps it up.
