Hey Gang,
I have been doing alot of thinking since Diesel has passed and I was wondering is there has been many successfull " British" style labs in FT's. I have always prefer'ed the big blocky labs compaired to today's " lean " labs. I can find no more suiting tribute to my buddy than when I am ready ( not for a long time ) to get a lab that is built like he was ( he was 95lbs in fighting form). I got lots of time to follow breedings and results so I might as well make the best of it.
So....... anyone got any name's of sire's or Dam's that are actively running FT's that would fit the bill. I know of 2 in the local area( Chris's "tundra" & Connie Swansons "Hammer") but can you guys think of any other's? Does not matter, US or Canada.

Liza's father, FC Fox-C's take it to the Bank, is as you described. Was around 90-95 lbs in trialing condition, but is long retired. Is 13 y.o. now, and has not bred naturally for about a year, and all straws are spoken for.
One dog that I particularly like the looks of is FC CAFC MONEY TALKS II. Here is his stud advertisement over at RTF. http://retrievertraining.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=36947

Jaybar's Picture Perfect, his sire Candlewood's Rebel Ridge PDQ, his sire Webshire's Honest Abe, or his sire Wilderness Harley To Go -- then there's Pike of Castlebay and so many others -- not show quality or even British style Labs but BIG and BLOCKY

Tundra's mother is where the large bone comes from (Bluenorth's MS Cosmic blaze) The blocky head comes from FTCH AFTCH Cold Creek Classie. Ted & Cynthia Gadowski are the breeders of Tundra (Bluenorth Labs) They have 2 of tundras sisters that may be being bred in the future you may want to give them a call. www.BluenorthLabradors.com
It will al depend on who they breed to and when if they do. As for any others who have that look there are a couple on is a dog named HRCH Waterbounds Loche on Laddy MH He has produced a couple QAA and there is CH kerryBrooks pick pocket MH QAA
I will keep and eye out Chris

I'm sure you can find what you are looking for in a well bred field trial line.
If that was a priority for me I would approach it as follows.
Find two or three well bred bitches with the looks you like. Wait for a breeding to a sire that is FT titled who has the look you like, then hope for the best. There is still no gaurentee. I saw Running with the devil run this spring in NY. Running with the Devil is a handsome animal but I don't think he looks a whole lot like Money Talks. You could chose an average ability sire and dam that both look good, and end up with a pup that is dumb but has the lean FT look!
In my opinion, the best looking dog in any FT is the one with the blue ribbon.
I don't want to work harder than my fellow trainers to accomplish the same goals, so looks aren't even secondary to me. Ability,& Health are far more important. I prefer the sleek lean athletic looking dog anyway. Even if they do make me look a little wider.
I looked at the website for that HRCH. A handsome and competent animal I'm sure. But the quote should read, life is too short to hunt with a meathead. But I did like the shotgun next to him.
I've had about five labs so far. The one that meant the most to me had classic show looks, lots of brains, not particularly well bred (Honcho 4 gen back) and a heart bigger than any I've seen. Today ,her ability is what comes to me when I think of her . She could have been the ugliest lab in the world. It wouldn't have mattered.
Beauty is, as beauty does.
I think Mike Lafond has advertised a litter out of Hammer.
I'm sure it's worth a good look.
Good Luck in your search

Drew,
I second what Scott and others have said about finding a dog that fits certain geno type - in this case size with british looks. I have been fortunate to judge some large opens and limited this past year. I have seen several of the dogs mentioned run and they are very stylish animals for the most part. What I look for in a new dog is what does its breeding bring to the table so to speak. In my case I look for marking ability and what do both lines of the dog bring to the table. In your case there are select animals that have what you are looking for but instead of looking just at the sire the feamle brings as much or more to the table. The females that I would want a pup out of that are larger boned:
Duboses - Jerry lee - one of the finest water entries on the East Coast
Kippy's - Goldy - Flat out one of the best markers and handles well and she has legs.
Ken Neil's - Windy & Nellie- Again they can smack the marks but handle as well
On the Sire Side
Kippy's - Pike - Flat out he's a small pony, but he has his moments
Ames - Copper - He can mark good looks & is yellow
Kippy's - Banner - Good marker & more classic looks but not as large as pike
Early's - zoom - Dog can mark is yellow has size but not british looks
this is the best list I can come up with off the top of my head.

You are 100% right scott!!! Trust me I am in no rush and my search will be long and hard before I add another dog. The way I look at it I got alot of training to do with Mercedes before this spring so I will be concentrating all my efforts on that. I just want to start watching and looking for the right dogs so when I am ready I know what I want, no compimises.

Take a look at Jazztime's stud dogs also. Their studs are beautiful with amazing accomplishments and have that big blocky head too.

Glynn has some great names on his list -- Pike of Castlebay is certainly a BIG one and can mark too -- a lot of dogs with size and looks have Air Express (found in Itchin' To Go, Harley, Abe, even Trieven Thunderhead) in their bloodline

It amuses me, as I have a lot of Air Express lines in my pup, and she's not real big... ;)

Check out picture of Air Express on Working Retriever Library under Hall of Fame Dogs -- big good looking male -- where Itchin' To Go got looks and down through to Harley, Abe, etc.
