Sledge & Ready had their best Xmas ever!!!

The boys are on holiday til I head south, so they get their ATV runs twice a day, & Sledge has made it his project to dig up & hunt the muskrats in our ponds; he is very committed to this & has a blast even tho there is no hope (I thought) of ultimate success.

Christmas day the boys happened to sight a rat out foraging on land & were able to catch it totally unawares. Won't go into the gory details, but they tag-teamed & committed rat-icide very efficiently & did it w/o getting bitten or cut. Ready claimed the body & proudly took it back to kennel where he delivered it to my side with great fanfare.

Needless to say, better than any Xmas treats we gave them!:lol:

Nice! Now that they've got their technique down, I bet those other muskrats won't last long... how many would you need to make a hat? :)

LOL!!! Sounds like they are making the most of their holiday!! One of our dogs caught a squirrel once...

They got another one yesterday! Maybe I can get a full-length coat!

Connie, I would not let too many people know that your dogs like to hunt rats. I remember a judge that would place white rocks in the field and our friend Frank Fleet had his favorite white sea gull decoy to attract dogs. The way your guys ran last year, I can envision a number of dead rats planted in the field. If not by the judges, for sure by some overly competitive handlers.
